I think 18 is simply luxurious for SP. If it's purely about survival - I usually run 9 if I need just food (canned veggies). Then I know I'll be okay.

6 set up for veggies will keep you fed easily.

I return to base only at the end of every game session, but I have to have enough on hand to survive an entire (real) day in one go, and have a full solar-powered hydroponics cannery with fridges. I think it currently runs to 16 plots of 3x3 (what's that? about 140?), mostly set up for veg with one row of four 3x3's for ammo- and med-components.

As such, my personal CV has zero plots and many fridges :D

Alright, thank you heaps for the feedback guys - I think I have my answer. The NXT is a luxury CV, so I'll aim for 9 (to be 'generous') but that's still substantially better than the 18 I thought I'd have to cram in somehow. Still have to reinstall the gravity generator, private cabin (+bed/bath), and figure out Engineering for the power generators, so the more space I have to work with, the better!

Didn't see this in time to put in my number, but usually I err on the side of too many. I'll typically have 2-3 6x3 plots all growing ingredients for canned veggies, and all the other base plant stuff (Aloe, Fiber, etc). I almost always end up having to re-do CVs that come with plots since they don't have enough space for them.

If I was browsing CVs on the Workshop and saw one with 9, I might just skip over it for that fact alone. It serves as a mobile base for me once I get to that point, so it has to generate everything I'd need everywhere I go. 18 for me would be a minimum (15 if I was cramming).

9 is likely the best option; 3 canned veg per growth period should be enough to feed yourself directly and stockpile a bit for when you're out and about away from your farm.

[Edit: Jaga does have a point, it depends on the primary purpose of the CV, and the user. If it's a primary mobile base you'd want at *least* 12 for a single person; 9 for food, and 3 for corn/other.

For a small transport/exploration CV I'd say 9 is plenty. I'd actually say 10. 9 for food, 1 for corn. You get a lot of plastic from corn but you have to wait for it, and if you use one of the 9 for it you effectively lose out on 1/3 of the food generated unless you opt for emergency tomatoes etc.

That all being said, it's actually pretty hard to starve in EGS unless you literally ignore your food situation until all your emergency rations are gone. In my usual games so far I've managed to avoid eating emergency rations at all. Corn dogs op.

I decided to give myself some game time tonight and finally got an old designed cleaned up and released on workshop. :D
    Sentinel Mobile Turret
    Sentinel Turret V7.X.jpg

These Mobile Turrets are designed to be taken on board CVs to provide extra defense for them while landed on planetary bodies.

The compact form factor houses a surprising 9 weapons mounts, including an Artillery cannon! Also includes 2 Miniguns for infantry and predators, 2 missiles for those pesky drones and 4 plasma cannons for anything that isn't instantly demolished!

Simply land your CV, then position your mobile turrets outside, ideally 1 at each end for near total coverage.

Remember, your Turret will only be active when not docked to anything and if you have Armaments turned ON.

EGS4.jpg EGS3.jpg EGS2.jpg EGS1.jpg Been a long time since I was on the forum. Busy couple of months, and not much game time. Tinkered a little this weekend, and actually made a ship I really like. Only the back end looks like a dog's butt. Will have to work on that.

Got pummeled by a drone taking the screenshots.

Ok the ZeroG refitting of the MALO is like 95% complete. Just need to work on the signal logic and add in a couple of lcds. Also thanks @Kieve for updating me with the originals authors name @Maloverci (thank you for building such and inspiring ship!

    So lets see the screens!

I would really like to upload this to the workshop, but really would like to have the consent of the original author. @Maloverci

Been puttering about a bit in an SP Invader vs Defender just to check it out (man, we really need some full scenarios with missions :()

Anyway, finally made it up off of Mato and went over to Eleen's asteroid ring... and every one of them is doubled up. It was hard to tell at first, because the stone textures really blend well. Some are two of the same type, others are two different types. As you mine, alternate voxels are destroyed, so you get both ore types. Visually, it's kinda cool- it feels like stripping out layers of ore. This one was my favorite ;)

A novel design idea! I didn't know it was possible to use CV Custom Groupings to operate separate Creations. :D

Also like that Minigun Turret pointin right into the ground... that could come in handy someday if a Empyrion/Tremors Series Mash Up ever happens. :p

    Welcome back! :)

I know well how it feels for RL to suck & make Empyrion Time Availability crash for quite awhile. :(

This sounds cool... @Hummel-o-War is it possible to do shenanigans like this on purpose & is that what happened here, or is this an accidental good Bug that might actually be better captured & Assimilated into the Game instead of Squashed? :D

Wow, talk about workarounds for vessel shortcomings. We desperately need power limiting devices on ships, recoil affecting ships, larger ships moving/turning more slowly, etc. The CV balancing seems to get worse all the time, which results in the need for solutions like this. Not saying it isn't useful - just saying I'd rather not have to need something like this because of a poorly designed weapon limitation. Tedium-ad-nauseum having to deploy every time you land a CV, and collect every time you take off. o_O

What's the first thing you do when you set up base on a snow planet? Drop in a pool of course.

My SI test went well, but I realized that I might want spikes on the bottom of the base just in case the terrain is a little more uneven.

The look of the Star Cruiser has been bothering me for a while. Oh, I like the red-white paint job. The shape bothered me. Then I started counting blocks and realized that I had shorted a few blocks in some spots when compared to the original plan. What started as correcting a few blocks turned into stripping the CV and a nearly complete rebuild. Moved a few thrusters, thickened a few spots, and stretched a few elements. The interior is still quite gutted, and I haven't added the white back to the exterior yet.

This user is active in forums this morning, have you tried to contact yet ^-^
What I usually do is if i want to re upload something but the creator is unreachable.
As long as the user has no statements on their workshop/profile stating that their builds cannot be reuploaded, you should be fine to upload as long as you give the creator their due credit on your entry, and also link the original with it, and send them a notification of your upload with the understanding that you will happily take it down if they so wish.
Most users are more than happy to see someone else inspired by their work :)
This way your back is covered and you are acting honourably.
I have done this a couple of times myself and never had an issue with an original creator and more than once my reupload resulted in positive collaboration between me and original creators :)
Don't forget by linking their original on your upload they are bound to get a few more hits so its win win for everyone really.

That is what I ended up doing. I messaged them here and got a response a few hours ago giving me to ok for uploading.

I really like getting peoples permission to before uploading. Plus like the Sharcoon I am working on, I will add them to my ZeroG universe lore. Not sure how yet but I will pay homage the best that I can.

    So much fun!

Started working on the NXT's growing plot / kitchen area this morning... made some design choices I'm worried I might end up regretting and I can't say I'm altogether happy with the current work. To be completely honest though, I've always hated grow-plot areas the most (in any build, BA or CV), so it's likely I'll just have to grit my teeth and hope for the best in that regard.

On the bright side, Medbay and the hallway linking it to the bridge are more or less finished up. Still experimenting a bit with textures, but on the whole I'm pretty happy with the results.

Also, I forgot to mention that earlier this week (or this past weekend? Days are all kinda blurring together on me here) I finally started poking at some of the techy LCDs I have scattered around.
    Alpha7c_2018-01-25_10-45-42.jpg
Sorta reminds me of the control pad for an old Lego TECHNIC set I'd lusted after in my youth.

(Never did get one, but family did get me the first-edition Mindstorms RCX robotics set one Christmas, so no regrets really.)

I really like the LCDs... almost as good as having actual control panel textures/symbols we could use. Where do you source the Unicode? I've tried a couple random online lists, and it seems every time I find a symbol I like, the game barfs because it doesn't recognize it... is it just trial-and-error for you?
