It depends on how much energy you have available; effectively perfect recycling is possible if you break things down to their component atoms and run them through a mass spectrometer. With today's technology, throughput would be abysmally low and power consumption would be absurdly high; however, the in-game constructors can turn raw ore into finished products with relative ease, so breaking those finished products into components again shouldn't be too difficult for them, I wouldn't think.

Where in the Factory window can ALL things be recycled? Why would I put anything in the factory to be recycled if I'm not planning on using those components for ship or base building?

Empyrion is my first survival game and there is still a lot I haven't learned, much of which isn't very obvious, even after dinking around in the game for more than 1100 hours. I'm used to huge learning curves, things being hidden in the UI that are considered too "dangerous" for the average player to be messing with by the devs, etc. Hell, even after 15 YEARS of being open to the public, SL is STILL in beta and has an enormous learning curve.

I agree. However, what century is Empyrion set in? Well, that doesn't really matter. What does matter is Empyrion is set in a somewhat distant future and we should try to see things through the eyes of those who would be living in that future. At least, that is what I am attempting to do.

    After 3600+ hours, there's a lot that I don't understand and a lot of tools I don't know how to use or where to find them. But I do know this;
Open the Blueprint Library. Select a blueprint template.
    2018-04-03 (2).png

    Select Factory. 2018-04-03 (3).png

Put whatever you have in the box between the arrows. It will be broken down to the elements as shown. The amounts to the left are what is stored in factory. This can save some bother in having to load everything every time. If you are short on resources, you might not want to have same inaccessible. if you can afford it, having even a small stockpile in the factory is not a bad thing.

    I said before and I'll say it again (but this time I'll phrase it differently);
It would be very nice indeed if unused resources in the factory could be transferred to inventory and/or the constructor for use therein. This would constitute an effective and relatively efficient recycling capability.

Yes, it is a very steep learneg curve. I've been climbing it for 2 years. It took over 2 years for me to learn if a non-grouped device takes damage, like a light, I can click on it in the Control Panel, select "Show on HUD" and there it will be, tagged and ready for repair.

    Good Night and Good Luck.

I think Show on HUD is a newer option than you might think, added as part of the tutorial implementation.

It's possible that the current virtual factory's ability to recycle material could be incorporated into the physical factories of 8.0, or something down the line.

I know how to use the factory. Thank you. That isn't what I was asking.

It would seem what you call recycling isn't what I'm referring to. Once you put something in to the factory you can't get it back out. That isn't recycling imo.

If what you are trying to says is that you think the factory should be re-coded (or code added) so that you can remove components to use in the constructor, I think that is a great idea but it isn't what I was talking about.

Now if you mean to add the ability quoted above to the factory, I'm all for that too. I just don't think it's feasible. To me, it would make more sense to use the constructor for recycling.

(You can also aim your crosshair at the light then hit the P key and it will highlight that light in the list. If it doesn't do it with the light list collapsed, open it, then close the control panel and hit P again. Be sure you are still aimed at the light before hitting P. It will highlight any object you aim at if it is listed in the control panel. Learned that by accident. lol)

I'm old, tired and confused cuz I don't know what you're saying or asking. or talking about. All I'm saying is that there is recycling of materials in the factory. You can throw your old walls, weapons, ammo, furniture and the kitchen sink to be converted to raw resources to build blueprints. If you don't build blueprints, then it's of little value, and I beg your pardon. But it IS recycling.

I have no idea what is or isn't feasible. I don't know code from codfish. I do know I'm sorry I got into this.

Well. That makes two of us that are old and tired.

I was not aware that you could throw old things into the factory. I didn't think it would accept anything other than what is listed as needed components for a given ship or base so I never tried putting anything other than what is listed in. I do thank you for that information. I'll be checking it out next time I'm in game. That is also the reason why I wasn't quite getting what you meant. And yes, from what you just said that is a form of recycling. Just not the form I had in my mind.

Please, don't be sorry. I did learn something from you. That is something I value. I was not trying to argue with you. I was trying to make myself understood. English isn't my native language.

Fair enough. And thank you for that clarification.

This is a great, though sometimes frustrating game. It is also my first survival game, as well as my first early-access game (at least that I've played for more than a few hours).

We got off on the wrong foot, but it's okay now. This is also the first game forum I have ever participated in. This is a terrific community and have generally gotten a lot of help, encouragement, and useful information.

Have a great day. I'm going to take a nap ;)

    You're welcome. And thank you!

It's also my first early access but not my first forum community. I blame the original SyFy forums (well before the name change from SciFi). ;)

    Sleep well! :)

I'm awake now. To avoid more confusion, I blame 'Destination Moon', 'Forbidden Planet', 'Star Wars' and the 'Atari 400' for bringing me to this point in this game, Are you blaming SciFi for this not being your first game forum? Are you saying they sucked you into the vortex space games?

Since the change, I don't watch SyFy nearly as much, but I look forward to the new season of Expanse and Killjoys.

Naw. I blame Skiffy for my forum addiction. lol

I've gotten to where I barely watch SyFy now. Not when BBC America runs ST:TOS, ST:NG, all of David Attenborough's series, and quite a few other scifi series like Doctor Who. They've recently started running X-Files.

Well heck. You can see for yourself. http://www.bbcamerica.com/schedule

Oh and if you can get Comet, they run lots of old scifi movies and programs and Andromeda and Stargate Universe.

Love David Attenborough & BBCA. Don't know Comet, I'll have to look into that.

    Is this a thing?
So I've built a base (linked below) and I've created an underground hangar. Cos underground stuff is generally cooler than overground stuff right? (subways, silos, root vegetables)

But when I spawn it in a game, with the main entrance flat against the surface, the underground part is full of terrain. Do I spawn the base and then have to dig out the underground parts?
    Have I just been foolish?
