@Starwing6 Wow, you've made some serious progress! Nicely done! Looking spectacular. Feeling bit ashamed that I havent contributed to the base build at all...
No worries! We just stayed up far too late two nights in a row (Timo and I). I seriously admire your self restraint and ability to think of the next day while you're playing and having a great time. Besides, if we don't restart soon, you have the most experience with building the HV parking and ramp underground...
I found the ore distribution around the abandoned mine, appropriate. Makes you wonder why it was abandoned...
The Wasteland Mustang was COOL... but slow, not airtight, not really useful besides Roleplaying... The Turbo Mustang was FAST... but not armed, no Survival therefore not usable besides Racing... Now, what would arise if we would hybridize them?! Let's see... Gatlings. At least 2. (we double that, having 4!) Minigun-Turrets. At least 1. (we tripple this, now 3!) and we even add a Harvester with his Harvester Box! Airtight Cockpit with O2 Station, Ventilator and O2 Tank. Definitive! Constructor. Yep, we include that! Cargo boxes. At least 4 Boxes. Yo. Fridges. At least 2. Yep. Armor Locker. Of course. But what's with the Manoeverability and Speed (Acceleration)? Let's check: Wasteland Mustang: Main 10m/s², Lateral 7m/s², Brake 7m/s²m and P/Y > 5.1deg/s² Turbo Mustang: Main 38m/s², Lateral 13m/s², Brake 12m/s²m and P/Y > 7.6deg/s² Survival Mustang: Main 24m/s², Lateral 11m/s², Brake 10m/s²m and P/Y > 6.0deg/s² still way way enough!! ...that's (about) the BEST of BOTH WORLDS! To further what Myrmidon wrote: The small box with a "plus" sign in it above the message you are typing in any given post. When you hover over it it will say "insert" and then when you click on it there will be several options for things to insert - spoiler, quotes, code, etc. Does it all for you; its very nice.
I dunno, I come here to read cool stories and see pretty pictures. Don't see the point at clicking open spoiler tags - but maybe that's just me...
Because of the Nightmares infesting the place?? That was always my suspicion anyhow. Like they sealed the place and hope the Nightmares can't get out. I think that because the first time we blew a hole in the floor and found the Nightmares by accident. After fleeing, we worried the Nightmares could just come out of there and populate the planet.
But with so many ore deposits nearby (in my game), you would think they would try to take it back. Heck, if they could configure the auto-turrets to shoot the nightmares they would have a much easier time regaining control. Side note, what are all those auto turrets doing in a mine anyway?
Yeah, I am with you on this. Apologies to @The Tactician[ Λ ] and @Starwing6 - was trying to offer a more thorough explanation as opposed to subtly suggesting or backing a course of action.
Since @Starwing6 already mentioned the server, guess I'll share a little as well. I've mostly been playing the role of scout & surveyor, which has lead to some... interesting situations. And with apologies in advance to my fellow [CAT] members, I'm too accustomed to "lone wolf" single-player and Creative mode. Trying to build a vehicle (HV/SV/CV) in Survival just feels frustrating and clunky - not to mention, the risk of wasting precious resources on unnecessary extra parts. While I thoroughly enjoy helping everyone out, my mode of play tends to be less "cooperative" and I'm off on my own a lot. So, early on, my first goal was to get a tiny HV skimmer up and mobile for us. Meet the Elancia: (84 Iron, 63 Copper, 50 Silicon) Extremely bare bones, but great for scouting and runs forever on a few cans of biofuel. Was able to traverse half the planet in a day, and found us plenty of fresh ore veins, a few POIs (including an Abandoned Factory - ooh, fun!) and after considerable frustration and failed excursions, some of those precious all-important promethium deposits. (Turns out they were mostly hiding in Radiated zones, where we couldn't get at them). Along the way, I happened across an old Xenu Supply Station in the mountains south of our base. Got just a little too close, and took fire from the drone and ion cannon. Luckily, I was able to make it away safe, but not without damage - the left thruster and some hull got blown clean off, and cockpit / surrounding blocks took some damage as well. Fortunately, I've learned to be prepared. A survival constructor and a few spare ingots later, I was patched up enough to make it back to base and complete the repairs, but the damage was done. Not to the HV, but to my pride - that Station had to pay for its insolence! Now, during the course of our adventures, we took down a Power Station, which provided a healthy source of loot - but also, salvage. Hardened Steel galore, and plenty of armored windows for Silicon... in short, a plentiful supply of materials for an armored combat SV. A little bit of XP and about 20 minutes of factory time later: The KSV-84 Wildcat. Instrument of my revenge. And surprisingly resilient, despite the "exposed" design. Took a couple hits from the Ion again, some stray fire from the drones, but the Supply Station is now a thing of memory. Thruster performance is somewhat lackluster, since at lvl 7 I was limited to using small thrusters (and H.Steel is considerably heavier than the basic stuff), but the Wildcat is definitely earning its keep as a recon fighter. Only downside so far is a lack of O2 station, which was a frustrating oversight when we made our first venture out to the Moon last night...
I did truly forget how to use those tags, but I am also a big fan of screenshots and stories in this thread.
