It's a Marcoss/Robotech reference. A space opera style anime origionally from the 80's with transforming mecha jets called valkyries. One of the modes for these was called gerwalk mode and described a kinda half transfromed state of a plane with arms and legs.
It was mutli purpose they could fly or walk. The trade off being higher manouverability but lower top speed. But they also had a robot mode just can't remember what it was called off the top of my head. Mechanoid or something.
So, back on Wetia, we cleared out and cored an Abandoned Drone Base POI. Not planning a full base, more like a pit stop- landing pad w/ repair bay, water generators for hydrogen, that sort of thing... so I went to the local lake shore to drop the WGs... This was the best pic I could do.. there are even more off-camera, but if I pulled back much further, you couldn't see them anyway... Spoiler: and now, the rest of the story... Yeah, that's right... there were over 40 of them in that one little spot.. So I did what any sane person would do... I left... and went back Couldn't get a pick of it, but when I hovered in close, they would climb over each other and crawl up on my ship... Unfortunately, I couldn't loot them fast enough, either... guess I'd better throw these on the grill... and then I went back a couple hours later... Dragged them about a klick away and down into a gully so they lost LoS on me... I know, I'm playing on hard... but sheesh...
For the very first time I put one of my ships up on the workshop. Please be gentle, I'm a virgin. This 'Expedition SV' as I call it is a nice easy workhorse. I hope it helps someone. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1397445764
Nicely played. I've also had some fun luring them into a nearby mine shaft. Don't know if it would work with 40 of 'em though.
I went circling around the starter planet in search of the dreaded "Orbital Patrol Vessel, in one of my old 5.5 CVs. I just encountered some drone base/ outpost that took about a minute to disable, although the drones kept coming out for a while after. I lost one shutter window part of the front "frame" and some weapons got a bit damaged, but far from critical. The "back" part of the ship didn't have a scratch, up to a few meters behind the "weapons" part. The open cockpit is airtight, and allows a nice, unobstructed view of the battle far ahead... this CV is like a bag of chips holding a shotgun...
@Brimstone , I couldn't bring myself to "like" you spider post since it made the hairs on the back of neck stand up <shudder> & is pretty much a pic of my own private hell . Me thinks some dev, or all of the evil buggers, or maybe the Production Manager(?) has Arachnophobia on repeat in the office and hourly leads one & all in the chant, "What do we WANT!?!?" "Mooore SPIDERS!" I mean holy hell guys! If yer gonna do this at -least- give us the option to tame some giant chickens for spider defense! (they'd need to be what? 10m tall??) Or maybe squads of 3m angry up-armored Marine Assault Chickens we could insert via combat drop to secure the beach head...
Ah. This morning I made couple of modifications for this design and went ahead and released the blueprint as I was happy with this. Hope you enjoy it and / or find it useful!
I got inspired and threw together a budget fighter, called the T4-Feral. It's very cheap, agile and has 6 gatling guns, all it lacks is good armor, so you'll need to dodge incoming fire. Oh, and it lands on it's back.
I've been busy painting my hover base today I've got far enough with it that I decided to take it for a bit or a test drive around the planet to see what the power consumption was like and to see how it handled. ....It did not go well! XD So yeah the trees in this version are every bit as tough as the rumours say! I think my first mistake was using the hover boost after I got stuck thinking, "yeah that'll get me free!" Things kinda escalated from there... But anyways, This thing handles a lot better than I thought it would and while it does take a bit of fuel to fill its tanks (in terms of a hv) the range is bloody good so I'm happy with it so far. I just may have to put some mounting points for some harvesters to get it through forests. I might put this on my workshop so any thoughts or critique would be welcome.
