An Omicron desert style escape capsule start with the same resources and creatures, including Rock Golems as 6.0 and 7.0 and no O2 on the planet. I have seen a lot of similar ones but nothing that gives us the Omicron I loved to start on before. I'd love to try it myself but I simply don't have time to keep experimenting due to work and everything else.
I'm planning on adding one to my scenario but I have no idea if I'll get it in or not. If I do I'll share the playfield here. Or if somebody else makes one first I'll ask if I can use it.
I WAS thinking about making either Vertigo Prime or Vertigant without O2 - to give them more 'difference'. Reminds me i wanted to share them explicitly, but then again… the full Scenario is already in the according thread available, so - feel free to adjust for personal use as for now But then again, they're 2.15g, so not 'default' Omicron either... Wanted to stay away from the game for today.. seems i need at least a forum-dosis...
I visited omicron but never used it as a starting planet. What do you think needs to be in an omicron planet? List things like tree types ,biomes, terrain features, wildlife, etc? Got any screenshots you can link? I'll try to make one eventually to include with my scenario and this info would help.
Omicron always had Orange Trees, Ahax Plant and Egg Plants. Anything else you had to grow yourself. The creatures were spiders, rock golems, Octopugh (I think that's the name), Worms and Arachnids. Resource wise, it was always just the basic resources Iron, Copper, Silicon and Promethium with Sthium available in space and Neomydium also available on the moon. All it needs is a start with Light Armor and whatever resources are in the escape capsule. However, an emergency O2 generator should be included along witha couple of power cells since it has to be powered now. Rock resources could be scattered around using the 8.0 start since finding underground resources is hard with the bigger planets now. The Orange Trees and Ahax Plants in the groves like they were before would provide a means to avoid starvation. Apart from that, it's a desert planet with a few pockets of water here and there but fairly small ones with Seaweed, Alien Thorn and Promethium rocks in them. The water always had a red tint. If you could create a standard Scenario but with Omicron as a choice like we had in 7.0 and previous, that would be great.
I have an Omicron from 2015 but it likely wont work with the new 8.0 format sorry. BUT, it wouldnt be hard to manually copy the old yaml onto a new one to get all the original assets back on the planet, Orange groves etc. Do you want the old yaml ?
Conversion would be beyond my capability. However, maybe someone who has more knowledge of the YAML files and how they work would be able to convert it into a v8.0 format.
I just uploaded a scenario which adds all the old starter planets, except Ningues. However they all have O2 to start with, because they use the Alpha 8 beginning (without armor). This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but here it is: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1435012050
Hopefully someone can use that, take away the breathable atmo and add the lightweight suit worn as standard in the for Omicron and Sienna start so it can be just like 7.0 again. You'd need the lightweight suit on Sienna due to the cold, you'd survive about 2 minutes at most otherwise, it was bad enough when we had the suit before, you still had to find somewhere warm to spend the night.
After testing it, there are creatures and trees that belong on Masperon rather than Omicron. The cricket like creatures don't belong on Omicron to start with. Omicron had palm trees and orange groves with the occasional grassy area where you could find fibre and the pink eggplants, there were usually several palm trees in those grassy areas too. The orange groves had several orange trees in a small area with a few Ahax plants scattered about as well. There were also some tall plants in the water and on the water's edge similar to huge water lillies. The mountains had a few T2 plasma plants, (the ones that looked like small rodents that wobbled slightly) scattered about and the a very small number of T1 plasma plants, (the tall thin one that looked like a tulip about to bloom), grouped here and there in the desert where you would also find Spiky Lemons among them. The creatures were the worms, spiders and the octypugh{sp} along with roaming single or grouped arachnids. You could find Rock Golems on Omicron too in the desert or in the mountains. The water was a reddish pink in colour. The rest of it was just arid desert land, no trees or forested areas like this one has. I understand that it's a larger planet and has several biomes but it really should be a desert foremost but yours has grass almost everywhere you go and very little real desert. Sorry to be so negative after your hard work but it's just not the Omicron I remember.
I tried, it just crashed. When I did get it working enough to load it into the game, it had perfectly square patches of grass, no trees at all and hardly any resources. Even then, I had constant freezing for up to a minute at a time.
Surely the developers still have that content and can make it available to users. If they don't want it to auto load into the game and read as one of the default scenarios that might make sense to them. But simply taking away content that users have become accustomed to is incomprehensible. There are just too many easy, perfectly safe ways to make such stuff available.
They didn't take it away. The old playfield files are still available, under the Content/Playfields/LegacyPlayfields folder. Just need to take the time to rebuild each old starter planet in the new playfield system so you get a similar planet.
Like I said before, if only I had the technical skills. I tried to re-create it before and failed miserably and that was using a planet editor to help me.
Its still there just disabled as a start planet by a hash. You would need to check light suit is also enabled to start and maybe tweak the starting inventory depending on how hard you go fixing resource rocks as i dont think it has any. I edited the temperate planet start to have a no o2 light suit start so i could get a feel for hame start with no o2 needing to make emergency generators, get biofuel asap for them etc. Definitely need to start with o2 cans to compensate for build times if you arent starting with constructor or generator
I notice the O2 gen and water generator can be powered by bio fuel now. That's a really big help when you can't get Promethium at the start. Now, you don't need to start with Promethium power packs as part of your starting gear in order to use them. 8.2 now has an airless planet start similar to the original Omicron (but still not the same). If it's still there, I wish Eleon would bring it up to the 8.x format with a size 3 planet and allow us to use it as the ORIGINAL Omicron.
