Look, I'm not trying to bash the admins, developers or anybody helping/volunteering for this site. The game developers have enough to do than watch a forum all day, and they have to worry about lawyers, and what not. And sometimes they (or their lawyers) have to worry about what their admins/moderators do. And the admins have their own lives to live, so I know they're not here 24/7. I get it! Having run my own forum/chat/IRC a long bloody time ago, it's not easy! Add to this we're all in different time zones, speak a multitude of languages, and it's a still early game, bound to cause some upset and discord, there will be disruptions and disagreements. That's normal! And the admins and moderators' jobs are to make sure that while these disagreements are happening, (as they will anytime you put two or more people in a room, you're bound to get 3-7000 opinions), they remain civil and do not violate ethical codes such as dropping F bombs or nukes from orbit or bashing another's religion. And to wit, I say "GOOD JOB!" Not just to the site's admins and mods, but to the community in general for not resorting to high school/grade school mentality to resolve issues! (INSERT *HIGH FIVE* HERE) Can we please have some moderation on duplicate threads? I've seen some threads spin off into their own sub-threads where it'd be easier for all involved to post in the appropriate forum/thread. Seeing the 3.5.1 thread updated makes me scratch my head and say "Wait, it's 3.6.1 now, why are we still commenting here?" Mods/Admins should either close the post, direct the poster to the new thread, move the post to the new thread or all three. Also, the developers have intentionally created two posts about the same topic! http://empyriononline.com/threads/p...-player-level-progression-and-tech-trees.3083 http://empyriononline.com/threads/experience-points-player-level-progression-and-tech-trees.3082 So now people don't know which one to post on? Nay, I say, NAY! Combine the two! And admins, mods. If you see a post in feedback/site suggestions that relate to ship building or bugs - or any incorrect thread, - please kindly direct the poster to the right thread, or "move" the post there and let the member know "Your post 'X' was moved to thread 'Y' because it did not fit 'Z'"or "Your post better fit 'W', so we moved it to 'Y'."
Well, one post was the announcement, and the other is a feedback thread. They're not combined because they are for two separate puposes. That said, people need to understand that the announcement section is not for bug reports, suggestions or feedback. Moderators may need to move, lock, and remind more than should be necessary, until people get the idea.
You're right, and it may not have been intentional (sorry!) But it is certainly confusing. And there are other examples, which I'm too tired to locate right now, that exist. Again, I'm not bashing the admins, mods nor developers for it happening. I'm just asking that when it's caught, steer/correct people to the correct thread.
Especially with the hotly debated topics such as the CVs on planets debate do get tiresome. Keeps the discussion coherent. Nothing worse than double, triple posting the same point in 3 threads. Easier to moderate. When the inevitable flame war starts, it doesn't escalate to 3, 4, or 5 other threads of petty behavior on the same topic. I'd like to see a main thread on the suggestion board to kind of be a "Look here first" thing. No repeat threads. We do not need 500 threads about the same item. No threads asking for stuff the devs have said are coming. (Solar Panels, I'm looking at you) I think SE and maybe KSP go that route for the suggestion thing, and to be fair it also lets the more creative suggestions get their fair share of the limelight, instead of competing against x amount of threads asking for the same thing.
i can say the moderation on this forum has caused me to be less active, and share less than i would like. it has actually affected my perception of the game, and Eleon game studios, in a negative fashion.
I've found no problem with the moderation. They seem pretty hands-off unless people go over the line - and in fact, they're still a lot more lenient than most forums. I'm all for maintaining civility and order in a public community. If people feel they cannot express themselves in the way they wish, there are plenty of other places to do so.
I've found no *real* issues. You're correct that they're pretty hands off. But I've watched my post be "moderated" for almost a day before it was released to the public. I sent a few messages and emails to three admins... On the other hand. These guys are pretty awesome, and I've yet to see any of them step "out of bounds" with their power. Having dealt with a few mods of my own who got power hungry, it's nice to see these guys take their job with a grain of salt. I'm assuming they're volunteers, so the job they're doing so far is by far the best I've seen in quite a while.
I can't see a reason for that kind of delay, but the upside is that we don't get nearly as many posts from spambots trying to sell us on performance enhancing supplements.
