Is there any way to export / convert a BP to stl for doing 3D prints?

As far as I know, no. I've written a blueprint reader which can dump the grid data; it could be extended to write the grid data to STL, but I myself don't have the inclination or time to do that.

This tool interfaces with STL files, but I believe it only imports STL (so, the opposite of what you want):

There are some scene capture tools., that can copy the mesh.
But it would require cleaning up the files in a proper 3D editing program (Blender or such) then,
and looking for some exporter for the 3D printing format.

Search "Extract Unity meshes" and you'll find everything you need to know. It's not a simple process and it does require the use of a 3D modeling program for best results. Blender has an .stl plugin that works well.

Is this legal? I mean I know the code is obfuscated but the meshes sounds music etc are under copyright......Right?

Extracting the assets alone doesn't violate copyright in most countries. It's a common practice in modding a game. After that it depends on EU copyright law and Eleon. I don't think there's any problem if someone wanted to extract a mesh to print a 3D model.

It would be insanely good thing if some day @EleonGameStudios make standalone Shipbuilder program like 'Solar System Generator' now - with option for model export for 3D print!

You could have real collection of fantastic designs... and people could also play Empyrion battles on kitchen tables

I hadn't thought of tabletop gaming. What a cool idea! I've seen lots of designs here that would make nice display models too.

The environment which I have settled myself in is fantastic. I was thinking how cool it would be if I could model my CV and SV's. Printing this out to a model scale would be incredible (nerdy squeals). Scaled in such a way to be able to mimic my game setup, sized to fit on a shelf. I imagine that the CV would be 12" x ? x ? and the SV/HV able to "dock" . I play table top games, War Machine, Heroclix, D & D, etc... and think this would be awesome. Has anyone played with exporting the prefab ships to 3d?

I have exported some model files from other games into .STL (stereo lithography) format for 3d printing, but there is typically a fair bit of work to be done to make these actually producible. For starters there cannot be any “holes”, missing faces or unconnected vertices, or at best you’ll make fascinating blobs of plastic spaghetti.

Not sure if our block-based models would be suitable subjects without a tremendous amount of post processing, so it may ultimately be faster and more economical to buy yourself a few bags of LEGO.

currently there are only two buttons you need to click: Open and Export,
because it is a work in progress so the tool is not complete, but still create something acceptable
