interesting i actually went the other way and failed miserably. i didnt have any slopes i actually just made a flat plate as a base then made a i think 9 block tower type thing that was chopped off to just the elevator blocks . then i made a second flat plate as a CV and cut the middle blocks out the size of 2 bay doors which gave i think 1 block clearance on all sides and honestly it only ever stopped at the door. what i was trying to do was very simply well what i though would be simple anyway ... just a ship that didnt need to have access side doors or whatever . i just wanted a way to access a CV without beign i guess exposed you know maybe an escape type thing i dunno .

i have been messing with the idea of i guess pod SV on a CV

i just made basic ships and tried to make room for the smaller ones to dock

There's still some circumstances where it can be hard to pull off shenanigans like this cause of the Base Bounding Box & CV Bounding Box fighting with each other like Cats not liking each other instead of being cool & Co-op-ing with each other. :(

It would add a lot to my game if NPC's could be spawned with vessels:

Is there a reliable way to "drop" HVs from CV?
As in drive a hover vessel over hangar doors, step out, open the doors and have it drop to the surface?

i think default door work would open for you normally and you may be able to make signal logic for this as well but honestly i dont know very much about that

If you tie the hangar doors to a signal, they won't automatically open when you drive over them so you could control them with a switch or something.

I don't know if a HV will automatically fall if it's parked on top of a door and the door opens and there's no one in the driver seat though.

It won't move until there's someone in it. That disappointed me, too, when I tried to make HV gravity bombs.

most of the day and night i have been trying to work out how to make a more traditional space ring you know like all the space stations always look ... i think there explanation was always for gravity because the rings spin and all that jazz and i know spinning is not gonna happen but i cant work out how to make a well basic circle thats bigger than the 4 blocks and doesnt look like a massively pixelated nightmare lol .....

im just hoping that im missing something honestly ... i was planning on putting like 4 cube like shapes in a cross pattern on the ring top bottom right and left to make it easier but they will be fine its just the rounding on the sides thats not ..... i wanted the rings big enough to travel through maybe a little bigger than just small tubes tho .... i just cant work it out ... and im starting to think its just not possible really at this point

You can't make a perfect circle but you can use the various slopes and make like a 16 sided ring or something.

As far as the gravity goes, that would just require careful placement of the generators. I don't know how feasible it is.

Circles and rings are hard but I know of some examples that might help.

Ring hull: just a blank ring shaped hull someone made.

CV Achemar: if this is the one I'm thinking of the ring shaped portion has gravity generators spaced around the ring. See gravity follows the direction of the generator so whichever direction the generator is facing will determine the pull of gravity. The fields can also overlap which can make things....interesting.

Another ship with a nice example of a ring shape.

those are more than enough to pull apart and see how it worked to make my own thanks a ton .... you know when you are banging your head against the wall for hours and then you take a break because its impossible then find out its not really as impossible as it seemed with the knot in your head lol

Been working on this one freighter some more.

I started out with a YT-1300 hull and added a second cockpit corridor. Then I turned those into thruster assemblies. Then I changed the orientation of the ship and added the central rectangular cockpit corridor. The next iteration I ripped out a bunch of stuff and built up the bridge.

New bridge. Maybe we'll try new thruster assemblies. Ended up looking too Star Trek like.
    Creative 8.6.x_2018-11-30_06-00-40.jpg

Back to the old thruster assemblies. Hrm. If it's going to be a freighter it needs some cargo containers.
    Creative 8.6.x_2018-11-30_06-00-48.jpg

MOAR CARGO! And a bigger bridge. The thruster assemblies became "retractable" arms for manipulating cargo. Now I have to figure out a place to put the thrusters again.

I might change the orientation of the ship again. We'll see.

Thank you for those workshop links. That Achemar is stunning! Great inspiration there.

Been working on the CS Arcadian a bit.

Decided to tweak the nose design of the ship and add more detail here and there,...

Interior is starting to take shape, but there is still a ton of work to be done.

Posted a couple pics that should help visualize the scale of the vessel (character and a couple other vessels visible).

(Note: not all textures and colors are the final ones... still tweaking things...)

Closest ya can get to this is to point the CV into a Parking Place that points the HV towards the Planet, then drive the HV through Space (Yes you CAN do this, just take note that the HV will NOT be able to drive or strafe up or down even if ya place Thrusters on the HV pointing in those two directions... this is why your CV must point the HV towards the Planet before ya Undock the HV!) & drive it into the Atmo & send it in & it'll enter Planet then fall toward the Surface & upon Landing be able to drive around as normal! :D

It'll require Pickup to re-leave the Planet though... if it ever leaving the Planet was even Intended. ;) (IMHO it's especially fun to do this in a Hover War Tank!)

I'm not happy with everything at the mo but other than a section to lengthen the BA at the bottom (just to improve the flow of the whole thing) I don't see the outside changing too dramatically from this point.
