The in-game terrain editor (console command: te) no longer changes the terrain.ecf file in the current save that you're working in. No errors, the save button is there and terrains do change in game, but the .ecf modifed date doesn't change, and when you restart the game the default terrains are back. Is it just me? Or did this break with a recent update or hotfix?
Don't know about default editing during creative or survival... but for 'lpf'-worlds it works fine. Had no problems, using version 8.7.1909 (Experimental) After saving the ecf it didn't update the date either, had to refresh my explorer folder. I'm using the 'lpf' command to load a playfield template directly from the main playfield folder (e.g. EGS\content\plafields\MyTestWorld) (If you use a standard template, make a copy of the folder first) Open it in the SolarSystemGenerator. Generate the world, save the playfield once, so that you have a playfield.yaml file there. Main menu: Open in-game console. Type e.g. 'lpf MyTestWorld', without quotes. Then edit your world there, save. To make your planetary map visible again after changes, type in the console 'playfield'. That will re-generate the world completely, including the map. (needs a cleanup of the in-game EGS\Saves\Cache some times, can collect a lot of old data,) - Alternatively, you can use the ecf from such a TestWorld to overwrite your save game's ecf.
Crazy. I never would have tried that, I knew about 'pf' to reload the current playfied, but not 'lfp'. You helped me figure it out. Thank You Needle.
The in-game terrain editor will change the name of the splatmap to the planets name in the terrain.ecf file. When making custom worlds in separate scenario this is an annoying problem. To fix, keep a copy of the terrain.ecf to the side. After editing the terrain in game, open up both terrain.ecf files and make sure the splatmap did not change, if it did, just change that line back to the one in your copy. The in-game terrain editor has buggy with that since 8exp. As Needleship said, clearing the cache is a good idea. On a server be mindful that changes terrain require you to clear the servers cache for that planet and the players. Most players will just think it’s glitched out and log off.
