Did a whole bunch of copy/pasting to put together a full length hover train, then replace-all'd to give it a Christmasy color Sadly it doesn't work very good (needs some form of flexible HV-HV connection (like a hitch), SV<>HV docking, and better RCS mechanics to ever be viable in survival) Only have two carriage types made so far, have ideas for a lot more, but not much motivation to build them since it doesn't work very good (Passenger car, Weapons/combat car, multi-tool/drill turret car, etc.) Spoiler: a few more pictures original color, name shows train makeup (L-locomotive, C-Cargo 32kL, F-Flatbed): Miner and utility SV pasted to the flatbed cars (SV is odd width while train is even, so it couldn't be centered - also it makes the blueprint red, along with cores in the pasted-on HV's) The absolute closest I was able to get 3rd person camera: (really hope they improve 3rd person camera someday) hill climbing works, sorta, nose of train hit the ground a while but eventually slid up high enough to hover: flying: (well, not really, rear 2 cars are still on the ground in this pic) doesn't deal well with dips in the ground - needs some flexibility between cars
Well, well...now we have a certified Ship Builder for our Bath Tub sized Lakes and a Railroad Builder for our not so Flat country.. Soooo, what next?
With all these space docks release, I want to jump on the Train as well.. *cough… Here's the hull only version i've uploaded in october as private Just a 'small' start for everyone who wants to expand large: The MAUL Spawndock: 476m x 478m x 20m https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1529975302 EDIT: And some images of the continued WIP: Spoiler
With the retractable turrets removed, there was space on the inside to add a whole new room. I think this next pic is the last area I need to patch up since the changes to get this WIP under 7500 CPU. This was built around the L and M thrusters that don't extend 6 blocks into the ship. Moved the generator so it wasn't right up next to the thruster.
Oh my! Very Pretty! Btw., I subscribed to your Eagle symbol for the academy(?). I wan't to try to display something like my Avatar shows
The bird on the top look more buildable. The botom one is nicer, and I think Kieve's skill needed build that nice circle shape around the wings.
Would be great to know such a able builder lend his hand.. Another view of the upper picture How it looked as a statue
Phase 1 of updating is complete, all of my BA/CV builds have been updated with the new cargo containers and WiFi controllers. All mobile base SV/HV builds have been updated with WiFi controllers. Starting phase 2, determining where the new blocks can be put to the best use, and which builds need them. I plan to use the heck out of the new ramp blocks, I just we had a 1x that was longer. I also found a new twist, weapons will refuse to fire if they game thinks they are blocked. ... and the window in the screenshot is enough to block it. I cut the side windows out of the updated build.
Today I started with updating my builds to alpha 9, and I've finished all of my HV's. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1401146098 The T4-Wasp has changed the most by far, I've added some nice wings to it, and replaced the turrets with retractable ones, making this hover RV look a lot sleeker. It's still quite chunky though.
So what did I do in Empyrion today? I uninstalled the game. I've enjoyed my time here but now that the fun police have turned up I'm gonna take an early bath. Here's the thing, this game had one area that really kept me playing and that was the creative freedom it offered. If I wanted to play a survival game there are so, so many better options! a sandbox? yeah there's plenty of those that do it better as well! As for pvp? Good god pretty much every game that has pvp does it better than Empyrion! But as a game that just let me build cool stuff to play in its yard Empyrion really knocked it out of the park! All that seems to be over now with the implimentation of mass, volumn and cpu. And with that addition comes the loss of any hope I had for the future of this game. Over dramatic? Maybe, but with this update I've found changes and a future direction I'm not willing to put up with so I'm gonna get outta here and find something fun to play. Good luck folks I hope this game doesn't crash and burn because it's been fun but I personaly think its doomed.
I definitely can see your point. To me mass/volume for CVs is the same that Structural Integrity was for Planetary Bases: An absolute fun killer. Personally i have given up hope that EGS will become the game i was hoping for, i'm just here because of the lack of alternatives. (I hate the ship designs in NMS, and what i hate even more is the fact that you can't fly anything bigger than a shuttle.)
I gotcha completely. There's this huge hole in the space game genre, ED is solid but you can't exit your seat, X4 is more focused on economics and the like, NMS is fun, but the ships are just bad, and lack any sort of lore or anything behind them. And star citizen... Would be the perfect game for me, but It'll probably never be finished, they're running out of money fast and have gotten done relatively little.
Amen brother. I noticed that people and game designers tend to neglect how immensely and incomprehensible big space really is. You don't want to travel it in a small confined one seater, not because FTL engines where to slow, but in case ANYTHING goes wrong. It would be like being a ant sitting on a leaf and trying to cross the pacific ocean, except a million times bigger. It's completely insane.
wow, thanks That ship turned out really well, and kinda fits an emerging need for an affordable (but not necessarily durable) ship for hauling around cargo and other things. I found a pic I took of it in a very early stage of building: it ended up looking much different that that but is the same concept
Now that ships can hover sideways in atmosphere, the time is right to try innovating my docking system even further. I started with a simple test, modifying an existing ship. I added landing gears and ramps next to the closed cockpit, allowing it to connect with a CV. Then I activated the right ramp, and when I got out I was put on the ramp, with easy access to the CV. A great success if I do say so myself. Now to implement this into an SV.. I want to make a cargo flying wing kind of deal, so I have a dedicated cargo hauler. Since flying wings are hard to fit into hangars, I though this would be the perfect fit for this ambitious concept.
