I hadn't played in a while and when I finally did today, I found that I was unable to place my base facing the direction I wanted. Basically, I could only place it facing North, South, East or West. Is there a way to change this back to the way it was before? I just dug a tunnel into a mountain for an underground base and then I dug out a vertical shaft. That tunnel faces a southeast so neither a south-facing nor an east-facing block placement will work.

Look to your Controls settings for Rotate Axis, and Raise/Lower Blueprint. These will allow you to adjust some direction, and push it further from you as well. The moment you 'move' though, it resets the placement hologram.

To FINE TUNE a rotation, you must complain to the devs to add some method of holding a modifier key and turning to do it.

  3. No, you can't change this back to the way it used to be.

With 9.0 the devs expanded greatly on the AI pathing capabilities (such as they can now go up and down stairs, navigate from terrain to base blocks, etc, etc.)
In order to make this happen they had to make it so bases are aligned with the terrain grids. This means we are stuck with 90° rotations, for now at least.

In my opinion this was a good trade-off. The new AI pathing capabilities has greatly enhanced the survival gameplay.

Yet oddly.... the RandomPOI spawn mechanic and FixedPOI placements can ignore the grid rotation limit. Seems only imposed on player spawns.

Unsure which is an oversight, or intentional in that case.

  5. Yes I had noticed the same thing. I seem to recall Hummel commenting on this in one of the threads.
Players CAN still do different rotations, but it requires using the setrotation command to do so.

Er, actually, nevermind, RANDOM POI spawn on grid, and the "Rot: [ 0, 123, 0 ]" directive does not work for them.

However FIXED POI can be rotated on placement if wanted.

Edit: And yeah, 'setrotation' still works for anyone with privs in a playfield for fine tuning.
