    Hi!

I tried to play empyrion with proton on Ubuntu 18.04, but game doesn't start because easy anti cheat is turned on by default. Can I turn it of somewhere in the config files? This way I could play single player on linux maybe.

You can start just Empyrion by hand with Empyrion.exe file from your Steam install folder (or your backup folder where you copy whole game) - and you can disable EAC in your in-game settings (last tab with 'general' stuff).

Hi in my experience on windows when starting the game with the empyrion.exe instead of the empyrionlauncher.exe the game is started without eac regardless of the games config.

I confirm this.I mostly play by running the game from exe.

So does it work from exe in Steam play?

Steam fires up empyrion using the empyrionlauncher.exe

then when in you can activate or deactivate the EAC if required.

I discovered this by accident, I make my own custom shortcuts to my games in my start menu, i shortcut empyrion.exe there not realising the difference.

It was not until i tried accessing eac servers that i kept getting error about eac not being active even when active in the settings.

After a couple of bug reports on the matter i discovered i was always able to use eac when i use the steam start for egs.

So I simply replaced my start menu shortcut with the empyrionlauncher.exe instead and all was fine :)

Well i didn't mean the empyrionlauncher but only the shortcut to Empyrion.exe. On the other hand, wow that's very good. How does it feel to play? If you do not mind could you also post on the following steam thread about Linux, your experience? there are tons of people there that would like to know too.

I think you misunderstand me there buddy, I am not a linux user.

I was just explaining how the different exe usage will result in eac being active or not on windows.
    ;)

I assume it would be the same or perhaps similar on Linux or at least that's the only clue I can give relating to the OP's question.

Well, I am sorry. Seems the outcome of the steam play linux test remains unknown still.

First you have to find the Steam folder. You have to find the Empyrion folder and you will see it under it.I guess it should be under "Steam\steamapps\common" where all the games in your library that are installed are found.

If not, try search it as a file "Empyrion.exe". My memory with steam on Linux is very weak.

Nah you don't understand me. I know the path of this exe. But I can't start exe files with proton, because it's an automatic steam feature. I think I won't play Empyrion on linux. :(

Today I managed to play Empyrion on Linux getting smooth at least 60FPS :D

    More specific :

    1. After I saw that someone put a Gold designation of the game on ProtonDB. Proton was updated some days ago to 4.2. More info here

    Empyrion GOLD

    2. I managed to find a video by Chris Titus Tech, about a general guide for winetricks/protontricks. Anyone interested the link is bellow.

Steam Proton | Protontricks | Custom Versions and Variables

    3. After all these I changed various wrong settings I had on my PC with the use of Protontricks/windetricks and managed to play Empyrion on Ubuntu Linux with smooth 60 FPS like if I was on Windows.

I hope this information will help those that have not managed to play yet. No info about multiplayer. I only play single player. If something changes regarding MP please share with those that want the information.

Thank you everyone and I wish you happy hours on Empyrion on Linux. Now go install and play.:)

I got Empyrion working on Linux by:
    - Installing Steam natively AND through wine
    - Installing Empyrion with Steam Play (the native installation, not steam.exe)
    - Starting steam.exe and logging in (this fixes the Steam Authentication Failed error)
    - Starting Empyrion.exe directly (NOT the Launcher exes or through Steam Play)

also something to think about I hand my graphics card die and have not been able to afford a good replacement. but I find that shadow works well for EGS, Though that would not be a virtual windows environment, it is a cloud based pc but some might find it easier to work with
