Indirectly this is already possible if you have a stack of blocks on each slot. The slot remembers the last used shape. Maybe the preview of the selected block could be displayed in the slot? Edit: I should perhaps reload the pages more often, then I would also see that others were quicker with an answer
Hey, you at least added an additional useful idea of previewing the selected block in the toolbar. I 2nd this idea if its easier to code than adding an entirely new toolbar as Hummel suggested. I'm really grateful Eleon is going to the effort of adding so many new block shapes... I'm hoping I can eventually convince some of my graphically snobby friends to give Empyrion a try despite its blocky look compared to AAA games. I really don't get the people who come in here ranting about how new block shapes will ruin the game... imho, this game absolutely needs additional block shapes if we hope for it to survive many years from now with the more graphically pretty games now starting to catch up with Empyrion's superior gameplay mechanics with new technology.
Oh WOW.... really great models. I can't wait to get startet working on some builds again when A10 hits live. Good that it still takes a while.... gives myself a lot of free time before this building behemoth takes all my free time and eat it alive :-D
ok, every time you add new blocks, it just makes me want more (or dynamic blocks that change based on blocks around them). The new heavy window shapes are great and i am already rebuilding some ships to take advantage of them. but now that we have HeavyWindowP and HeavyWindowQ (one edge and no edges), it makes me want P and Q versions of E,F,G,H,I,J so that i can continue the large window goodness around corners.
Heyho together, the new heavy windows are awesome and a long wish fullfilled for me, but there is missing a shape for a really nice flat window wall! For now I recommend a shape like "HeavyWindowQ" with a minimalistic connection in 1 corner, the rest should be okay with rotating it. Sadly, for consistency it would be at some point necessary to also give us 4 more shapes: Two with 2 corner-connections Opposite side Same Side One with 3 corner-connections and of course 1 with 4 corner-connections
Also, since Faith made it stand out more than normal, I think all the heavy windows need a final pass to choose between a bevel from metal to glass or a inset step...the blocks, both existing and new seem to have no reason for one or the other...and dont blend together well.
That is what i said when they fist introduced those windows: both profiles need to be shaped the same way on both sides. otherwise the use is pretty much limited and you need blocks for every side where one could do. But in your picture, can't you turn the on (from this perspective) up side down? It looks like the block on the left side is 3 sides open glas, one side frame edge. So if you turn it 180 degrees the other side should be up.
Nope...if i turn it the other side up, it has the right bevel, but since the windows are offset to cover half the block, it doesnt line up
I'll give it to Eleon, they get the strangest complaints about things. People mad about too many options! How dare Eleon fix bugs and optimize the game!! Than to add more things to the game??? Ruined it! If anyone ever has an issue with Eleon, you should look to a lot of other Early Access games complaints are... Common complaints about other EA games as follows- "This game hasn't been updated in over a year WTF" "You keep adding things and no fixes" "When is multiplayer being added?" "The Devs never respond to our questions" Those are complaints you almost never see here and I wonder why? Anyways all jokes aside and what not, I am happy with all the new shapes and features. Please keep it up and Shake the haters off!
I had such high hopes that we had finally gotten some heavy window blocks to use on angles other than just 45 and maybe horizontal running windows that can be placed on a vertically sloped surface. I was saddened to see it was just ends for the existing windows.
An extraneous post to complain that a post may be extraneous is a lot better though. Really lightens it up.
I like the idea from zztong "On a similar aside, at what point do ship designers draw the shape they want and a computer slices it up into the best fitting blocks? Then you can hollow out the hull and fill it with goodies.". It would be good to be able to model a ship in a 3d program then use an exported FBX or simalar to generate a hull with available blocks would this be a feature others would ask for? maybe not in game but an external program.
Here's two examples of the need for a something like HeavyWindowQ with a minimalistic connection in 1 corner, in this case the new corner blocks like HeavyWindowR/S/T/U (1st pic) and HeavyWindowP (2nd pic):
I also created another test bed for isolating the specific HeavyWindow blocks with bevels on the wrong side. It's specifically the new corner blocks, HeavyWindowR/S/T/U (marked in red on the test bed):
Regarding the upcoming changes to thrusters needing open space, will we also get a 3x3 SVDecoVent to fit the Thruster Enclosed XL? I know we can at least use 9x Shutter Windows L - Vertical (transparent) to cover the 3x3 Thruster Enclosed XL (for those who don't know, these are the only blocks that can be used to protect the open ends of CV thrusters, noted as, "Obstructs thruster: false"):
There is a full cube block with a circular hole through the center. I use this to make corridor tubes and it would be great to have 45 degree slopes, 90 degree corners and the necessary connecting blocks. Great game, just joined. Addictive!
yep that discussion would be worth it's own thread but it had to start somewhere. If my post would change something it would have been worse the "spam" that it is then no longer.
Right.... i forgot that those Windows are off center. Well in that case having two different shaped sides of the window frames doesn't help. And it means you have to have more shapes as a separat block. Me personally, i would like the window frames having the same shaped frames on both sides. Sloped/smooth ones prefered. But more blocks is also ok for me. On another note, i have noticed that the mirroring of some of the old blocks still don't work correctly. The thin slope parts (devided into thin slope 1 and 2 for left and right) mirror wrong: if you use one of those parts (doesn't matter) named left, on the left side it turns the part wrong on the right side. I haven't tested it fully, but my guess is: it uses also left parts for mirroring, while right ones would be correct. I see if i can take a screenshot from it when i get home from work.
