@Hummel-o-War I built this POI but it's inspired by concept art from Anno 2205. When people submit things like this is it something you'd be able to use? Or does it resemble the copyrighted material too closely?
That's actually a good question. We cannot use sent in 1:1 builds that are very ICONIC for a certain game or movie. Like Star Wars ships, or Star Trek vessels. Any X-Wing, Star Destroyer or Enterprise- or Shuttle like vessel is not usable. BUT: If you send in a build that is INSPIRED BY a certain fiction or series, it's bascially a matter IF it is easily recognizable as part of such an "universe". Again, this is mostly the case for SW and ST (and a few others, like Marvel/DC possibly) as these fictional universes are VERY defined in buildings and vessels. In terms of the building above I doubt this would be the case, as especially "buildings" are somehow very generic (although some games have a distinctive style, like Command and Conquer), there are very few buildings that would be recognizable with a certain movie/game universe OUTSIDE of being used in a game setup of the same context (Like an Empyiron:Anno Total Conversion mod). Different example: If you rebuild Tony Starks headquater/Avengers Tower and add a big "A" on it (so it is visibly a trademark) we could not use it. IF you build a big highrise with a lot of glass and in a certain shape, i do not think anyone will complain. Although you never know (especially some organizations and companies are know to be eager to absolutely protect their "assets" and derivates of them), it is ALWAYS better to get INSPIRED but then add a "personal touch" to a vessel or building, so it is clearly recognizable you are not building the "Avengers tower" but you just used your imagination on a shape you found interesting. PS: To be honest, if you would not have said it is from ANNO, i would not have recognized it.
I liked the shape of the building so I built something around that but it's not a recreation. Copyright/trademark infringement is something I try to be aware of if I'm planning to submit something but I'm not always sure where the line is drawn over what's acceptable. The shape of this structure is somewhat unique so I didn't know if that alone would disqualify it from consideration. Anyways, thanks for the answer!
There are plenty of games with mechs in them besides Mechwarrior so generic mechs should be okay but Eleon wouldn't be able to use any that recreate the specific Mechwarrior mechs or imagery.
They probably wouldn't consider anything with "fake mechs" in them because there are no mechs or mechanics for mechs in this game Would just seem a bit silly to have standing on a base somewhere doing nothing. Kind of like fake boats.
