I saw the first introduction of infinity pribably around 8 years ago. It might even be longer. I was a little impressed by the large scale and the loadingscreenless transition from space to a (almost) actual sized planet. Especially the flyby of an almost one mile long ship called Excalibur on the planets surface was so cool. But i think that game has changed. That doesn't take away from the great work of the current game of course.
I must say, that i've impressed the first time i saw that kilometer long ship called Excalibur across a planets surface. Also with the demo where they flew from space, passed an asteroid belt, into a planets surface and across the huge planet to exit to space again, no loading screens or waiting times. But what it turns out to be is only a fraction of the original idea. Not that it is bad, because it can be build upon. Also the game survived those spacegames like Jumpgate evolution and the other like-that-game i don't even remember anymore, but which is also gone..... Black Prophecy, that was the name! Anyways, i see the dedication put into this. But Pre-Beta event? I hope it is more a internal Beta before rolling out a public alpha- early access. To me the gameplay is not really appealing, steering seems to be overly complicated and clunky, sounds and visual effects have a minimal touch to it (i know there is no sound in space, but that is where realism is getting really boring). Although the scope of the game seems to be pretty huge, the models lack a little detail in my eyes. But to stay positive on the subject: as i said, you can see the passion and dedication of the developer (+s if its not the one-man-show from back then anymore). And i am sure that it will improve greatly over time. I think it is a good move to not go out to a bigger audience like on steam in this early stage. I just hope the devs have a plan to be able to work with such a limited range for potential players/buyers. Looking back at the, what: past 11 years now almost? It seems as they can just keep on working, to make their dreams come true. Edit: Ok now i feel bad. Not want to come across as being downtalking on it all, because it is amazing what they have achieved. And if i remeber correctly (just cecking) they have more backers than another Space MMO in the making. It must be a pretty impressive sight to see all those people in action at once (probably not very likely, timezones, countries and all that jazz) but i think it will be interesting to the development of this title.
So glad I just came across this thread.... I too remember seeing this back in the day. Wasn't there even a downloadable demo? And. You said JumpGate. How many hours did I lose staring at an asteroid or jousting flux. Loved that game. But yeah... I need to look into this. So cool.
