dpburke2 I have modified your hull design. Let me know what you think of the result. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2015781276
Haha! I "modified" it too! I am sure it looks not as fancy as your approaches. I made an unarmed, CPU-Compliant version - with Reserves - mounted a Large Constructor together with 9 Grow Plots....Small Typo - should read as MH-Matella (Latin for Nightjar)
@spanj have started a Speed challenge, so posted a run https://discordapp.com/channels/452028988718841877/684433823882149888
Hahahahahahaha, while I admire your memorization of the factory, I am not sure that is what Spanj meant. To be clear, Spanj did not really know what he was doing in describing or outlining the challenge either - so that is on him.
The way ya stuck the sides out like that... why didn't I ever think of that...? Tennis Court... 4-Square Court... fill with sand for Volleyball Court... all with a protective Wall around it to keep out the Spiders... unless the Devs ever teach the Spiders how to climb Walls, Minecraft Style... (Though for us Minecraft Vets, adding sticky-outy things to the top outside of the Wall as a Spider Guard is old hat.) Oh well... guess this is more practical anyway.
Having another go at building a large end-game base and its actually coming together this time I think. Construction is mostly a mix of combat steel shell and plastic interior with a load of concrete pillars underneath so it can be placed over shallow water as well as enhance structural integrity. I havnt started on texturing it yet and barely started on detail. (Ships parks around and on top just to help me size it.)
So I was doing some weapons testing and erm - this lot showed up to protest: Yes - that's a load of Zirax The game crashed soon after...
And to think all I got was 5 and all they wanted to do was look at my base. You had an army hit you! So who won the battle?
When I eventually got the game to reload without crashing instantly - I happened to look up and discovered this lot as well... Which is when I think the game caught and all hell broke loose: The base and tank are shooting them from one side and my little cruiser up above is shooting the troop carriers from above, so basically its raining trashed troop carriers. Meanwhile the lot on the ground and ceased their peaceful protest and engaged in all out rioting and seem quite determined to get in for some looting: At this point it crashed again. After reload I didn't get any more images (forgot), but what basically happened is that once all the troop carriers were down, then my tank turned it attention to those crawling over the front of the building and started shooting them with rockets, plasma and artillery. The next thing I know, the stairs have collapsed shortly followed by the door, though I could see from the impact glows that the base shields were still up (odd). Then the roof collapsed and then shields went from around 90% to off instantly and they were in. So I have no idea what happened as it crashed again. Because the roof collapsed (I had briefly looked at it in creative when designed, and I knew it wasn't good, but was something I planned to look at again later), then I spawned in a new base and had a look - Ugh - nothing like what I saw in creative! So I have a fiddle with it, try some things, then remove all the changes, and weirdly end up with this instead - which is more like what I saw in creative: Nowhere near as bad. Another couple of images: In one base, the combat steel beams on top of concrete pillars are having their intended effect under the floor (at least in part of the base), in the other they are not at all: It seems that ancient Egyptians with stone blocks manage better structural integrity that we can with our modern 'combat steel' and 'carbon composite', so that is something I need to fix, but the end result will probably look more like the temple of Karnak that a modern hangar if the spawned in version is anything to go by. It this is the way it is going to be, then at the least it needs to be more deterministic, and I think we need a new structural support beam block. Anyway - call that a technical loss, but I don't see why it should have been
The Structural Integrity mechanics being what they are is one reason I largely stopped building ground bases. I hope it gets a rework at some point.
That was part why this base is the way it is - I was thinking to take the same core base and turn it into a space station as well.
But it was still EPIC! Think of how many people in here, have been calling for a fight like that one! There is no such thing as structural engineering in this game.
I had been messing around with the base attack command to test stuff, but before that lot showed up, I thought the base attacks were done, so I was just inside tweaking stuff ands then looked outside and that lot were there, so I guess the attacks got out of sync or something. Anyway, I have since discovered the command to reproduce it ba s N where N seems to work with 1-3 - this was apparently level 3 I think. I have run it since and they will capture your base if they can - ie trash the core and replace it. In some later fiddling they took it. People have wondered what happens when zirax get hold of an end game player base (or more specifically a POI fitted with a full compliment of player weapons that all have good lines of fire). Put it this way - in solo you are REALLY going to want to be able to use those space only weapons on your CV to deal with it unless you happen to know a sneaky way to the core. For reasons I don't yet understand, when I tried to take out the turrets with my SV, it was fine loosing a bit of shields per hit, but whenever I went really close to the base, its shields went down instantly - so something else weird going on as well. To try it, you can spawn a base, fill it full of ammo and probably use a console command to give it to zirax (faction entity I think the command is).
I've been sick with a cold so not much progress the last 2 days. I did manage to work on this moon: I call it a metallic moon (or metallic lava). It has a layer of impossible to drill metal on the surface, but hotspots of molten gold can allow access to the softer mantle beneath and to gold deposits: It also has iron deposits that can only be mined via autominer but don't deplete. There are no drones here, maybe not even any POIs to raid, but the high gravity and the fact that you can only get under the crust in these hotspots should still give the moon some challenge.
Since I was in the Lost Colony no internal Light seems to work. First I tried it on the Colony after taking over. The light flickers for a moment and goes dark but takes the amount of Energy as if burning. Now I wanted to place one light into my small CV - same effect. Draws energy but gives no light only a short flicker...
