No, one does not need to sleep when there is v1.0 to play, explore, and enjoy! (see, on topic)

Oh I'm always going off topic. Just ask anyone. Besides 1.0 is so old these days. I want to talk about 1.+, I hear some good bugs are getting fixed. Can a bug be good in this context? I'm still waiting for a couple of bugs I reported to get fixed. :)

Happy Birthday Eleon!! I've skimmed this thread and have a rough understanding of both perspectives on the decision to declare this game as version 1. I would definitely recommend this game to a specific type of gamer, however with the prerequisite that, in Empyrion's current state, they must have a fairly capable PC, with an SSD and a high end graphics card. I definitely have noticed how demanding this game can be, and there's certainly room for plenty more optimization if at all possible.

To furhter elabotrate on who I would recommend this game to, this game is a grand for a gamer like myself. A gamer who enjoys everything and anything that is space. From watching the ISS feed, to occasionally chuckling as Elon learns another way of how not to build a rocket. I play this game because for some reason SE's aesthetics don't catch my eye, and other game's design interfaces didn't mesh with the way my brain works. As a creative outlet to design and build fantastical ships; whether they be based upon a sketch, winging it, or from an idea thought up in an altered state of mind, the creative possibilities in this game are vast. There's definitely some quirks. Sometimes it takes me hours to blend ship lines knowing full well that if this one block was in the game, this would be entirely unnecessary. But ahhh well, I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing, but rather a challenge. If you want to create spaceships and take on the challenge of trying to please a vast array of different players with different play styles on the Steam Workshop then you should play this game. For this purpose it's f***in' sick.

With all it's great creative elements, I should mention however, I don't honestly play survival all that often. Maybe 10-20% of my time spent in game has been in survival. I love fps games. I was ranked in Call of Duty in my youth, and as far as the shooting aspect of this game is concerned, it's rather underwhelming. The prospect of PVP has always tempted me but I can't stand seeing half these PVP vessels out there looking like space bricks with guns on them. Even some of the best looking PVP ships are still rather brickish in comparison to some of the most elaborate PVE builds. However I understand, that's how the ship combat works in this game. In some ways it leaves plenty to be desired, however that's not why I play this game. If I'm in the mood for some space combat, I light up, throw on the VR and play Elite. Simple as that. If you're a player who's looking for survival, and space acrobatics, don't really care for sandboxes... this isn't the game for you... (yet?... maybe??)

At the end of the day, this changes nothing for me, and I see it more as a positive. It seems to me you fine folks at Eleon have achieved a goal you set for yourself and congratulations on doing so!! I look forward to what you will do with this piece in the future! You seem like a great bunch, and I'm stoked for you guys that you hit this milestone. Personally, I even wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if, in time, all my negative comments are adressed and improved upon immensely. I'm pretty confident in your dedication to your craft, and have nothing but respect for you guys!!

But even with all that said... at the end of the day, when it's not on sale, it's 20$. Pleeeease... that's not even the price of a pitcher of Coors freakin' Light at most places. For less than the price of 2 shots of Patron, you could have this game forever. What can patron do for ya? Give you a headache, a fleeting sense of elitism, and 160$ public intoxication ticket. What can Empyrion do for ya?? well if you're like me, it can give you 2000+ hours of entertainment. Call it whatever you want Eleon, in my opinion you're doing a mighty fine job! Keep up the good work eh!!

but....could you turn down those shutters just a wee bit??? I fired an Enfield the other day north of Timmins, and I think that was even quieter than those dammed shutters. ;)

Well that "Major Update" thing is not true as there is no difference between v12.x and 1.0 apart some bug fixes and tweaks, as they told us clearly prior and at the release of v1.0. For that they could earn their rotten tomatoes...

As for reviews, we can see the negative trend is already slowing down:

    trend.jpg

If we extrapolate a curve, and we wait a few more days, things will settle back into "mostly positive - positive".

Also note that there are not many "refunds" despites the negative peak...

Another thing I was checking was the time played vs positive-negative reviews for recent buyers, which is more interesting for Eleon than what veteran begrudged players have to say, because we all know they "should know better" than simply looking at a red "Major Update" flag in the corner of a thumbnail and make "punishment review" because reasons we all stated many times here, and that were even stated in many positive reviews recently (mostly : entitlement).

I'm not discarding all negative reviews, but let's say that many players discredited themselves by going overboard on the rage train.

But on the topic of recent negative-positive, I saw that the bulk of "recent negative" has played an average of below 5 hours, while the bulk of "recent positive" is over that, which tells me that many players had too great expectations and did not give the game a chance, while those who went in with an open mind and not asking for too much from an indie title found it fun and engaging past the starting difficulty. And it shows also in their review : they are not "defending the game" but simply stating they are surprised and appreciate the amount of content, general quality and originality, while being well aware of bugs and lack of polish.

So for me it falls in the "normal variation" we can see in the general population, with a majority of people being "reasonable" and influencing the flow of events in a peaceful and steady manner, with a minority of hot headed people who set things in fire when not satisfied for a vast array of reasons.

Average Joe is calm, likes to think things out a bit before making statements, he feels no urge to make dramas, life is cool.

(p.s. I'm not average Joe... goes without saying I guess...)

I like your analysis. I was just talking with some off in magic magic land, and to assist your data, this:

    Screenshot (60).png

is the all-important number(at least to me) and I have been seeing 2x, 3x, even 4x times the number of people actually playing since A12 released(not even 1.0) My bet is that the negative reviews cannot match the power of the gravity generated by players actually playing the game assisted by Discord, Reddit, and word of mouth. So the number of players playing will likely continue to rise(sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly.)

    My thoughts exactly.
Survival games are different from FPS shooter and many players of the latter are jumping in the band wagon wanting fast paced action after the intro and early game rewards. I feel this type of game is kinda depressing at first, don't you think?

You start alone, cold, with no resources, being hunted, belonging nowhere. It takes time before you can reach the stars, enjoy all the visuals and a more complex game play. It's hard to do that in a few hours and some people review the game before that.

BTW, I was looking for a funny review to quote here and I find none of the old ones. Only recent reviews. I wonder what happened.

Found another steam review that made me about die laughing. It hurts, because it's true, and I weep for what might have been. It could still be, and I hope it will be, but I have no expectations left.

Interesting...I manage to still really enjoy the game, and have no deep sense of self loathing. Nor have I ever disliked something so much that I felt like writing a dissertation on it thats filled with half truths and opinions.

What do you want to achieve by repeating stream reviews here? If they are all true why do you even play Empyrion? Why did you ever play it? Because if they are now true they were even more true in the past as Empyrion improved quite a bit on its way to 1.0.
