There are a number of General Signals already configured in our Control Panel - does anybody know if it is possible to associate the signals from these with additional devices? For example, if I enable my Shields, is there a way to link this to the activation of another device, say, a flashing light? I know I can make my own Signal, but why re-invent the wheel?

Or, is there a way to get the current status (Active/Inactive) of a device for the same purpose?

If not, can we have one, please?

You can do that in two different ways using the Control Panel Signals

The ones under CUSTOM work with Devices Groups, so if you have a custom group with the shields and the flashing lights you can use one of those signals

On the other hand the ones under SIGNALS work exactly like normal Signal Logic signals so you can have several different devices activating using the same signal

The option of getting the current status of a specific device to use in Signal Logic has been asked for quite a few times already yes but still no ETA

You can also usually have a device send a signal on activation, which can turn on lights or other devices

Yes, I am quite aware of this - I've been using signals and circuits for several years. I don't claim to know everything about them - hence the question above, and every so often someone finds some really clever way of doing things, often in some very roundabout ways.

For example, here on my bridge, I have a HUD to display some status information made by tying the signal source of the switch that operates the boarding hatch to an LCD projector, which has been re-positioned to be easily visible from the pilot's seat. I've even made displays like this that "blink" by turning them off and on using some reasonably complex circuit designs. So yes, I could very easily use either a Custom or Signal signal to do what I want here, but I'd rather not have to use one of these limited resources to do something that is already there.

But I'm going to gather that, at this time, we can't do this, so I'll wait and see what future updates bring us - it's certainly not critical in any way - I've not had it this long, so I can't miss it, only want it. :)

    Oh?

Doesn't seem to be an option for the shield generator, same with the gravity generator.

Other devices, like the fridge have an additional Lock/Unlock signal, to keep others out.

The only other thing I'm aware of is for switching devices that have a Tx (transmit) signal, which is the signal they send to do "stuff".

If there's something I'm missing, do fill me in.

No, you're right. Devices can't send signals (apart the "trigger" devices - plate, sensor, etc. We can use circuits to receive AND send, but not send from regular devices.

Here's a link (I saved sooo many of these pages) before the thread dissolves in the past...

Q: Can i combine the singals coming from a circuit and use it in a new circuit?
A: Of course! Just use the outgoing signal name and select it for the input side. You can create complex circuits this way. Of course you should not delete the underlying circuit for your enhanced circuit or it will break the queue ;-)

The only other device that can send a signal when used are doors

They are used in some POIs to store a signal from a sensor for ex when you need a Logic Gate 2xAND from two different sensors
