HV tanks have a bit of a problem in that their turrets can't be controlled by the pilot. This places their weapon effectiveness entirely at the mercy of the notorious turret AI. Plus it's not much fun chauffeuring around an AI turret doing all the shooting you'd rather do yourself. Controlling a hover tank and its turret simultaneously would be far preferable. The implementation would look something like this. When controlling the turret from the primary pilot seat, the mouse would aim the turret while the HV would be steered by the keyboard. The roll inputs (default Q and E) would switch to yaw control, allowing the HV to be maneuvered solely with the keyboard hand. Direct roll and pitch controls would not be used in this mode, any needed corrections to these axes instead being made using the auto-level key. The HV's toolbar would not be available when using a turret, but lights, boosting, and similar functions would. Switching to Pilot Mode whilst using a turret would cause the vehicle to aim for the turret's crosshair, similarly to how it follows the mouse cursor. Hopefully with a tank control method like this, we could start using tanks like tanks instead of acrophobic SVs. Mining and multiturret HVs would benefit as well, becoming mobile platforms instead of stationary ones.
Wouldn't mind this for CV's either, especially for the mining turret when circling an asteroid trying to get a minimum of rock.
The pilot controlled turrets could be shown and selected from the pilot tool bar where we currently select fixed weapons and tools. I like it.
