Build: 3079 Mode: Survival Mode: Single Player Reproducibility: Always Severity: Minor Type: Physics engine Summary: With two overlapped container extension chains on a vehicle (SV/HV/CV), one chain does not distribute mass correctly Description: [See replies below. I've narrowed this down to a single-controller case.] I created a sample framework for two interlaced container controllers. Unloaded the frame is completely symmetrical with the center of mass aligning with the geometric center. When loading the green controller to capacity, the center of mass shifts upward. This seems correct since the connecting chain for the green corners is above the original center of mass. Loading the red chain to capacity, the center of mass shifts to the right toward the controller. I would expect it to move downward in the opposite direction of when loading the green chain. Filling both to capacity should result in a perfectly balanced center of mass, but it remains shifted to the right. Reproduced in SV, HV, and CV. Steps to Reproduce: See attached save / blueprints. Load containers to full with material and examine the center of mass. Screenshots, Crash Logs, any other Relevant Information or Download links: Frame design: Mass load for SV:
Also, I noticed on the CV version that if you have >320k extensions connected the loaded mass distribution seems to be almost random with either controller. Should having extra containers on the chain still result in a balanced load, or does it just stop when the chain reaches capacity and the rest are treated as empty blocks? Wasn't sure if that was a bug or not. The blueprints I attached are all under max chain length.
Further testing: I removed the green controller entirely, and the red controller still produced this effect. Moved the red controller to the left side of the craft and it is balanced again (loaded in both cases). So apparently it just has to do with which side of the ship the controller is on?
Yep. Seems like if the controller is on the positive side of any axis it contributes a full block shift in one direction. Doesn't seem like much, but it's enough to tilt an HV.
I just searched for this same issue I'm having and found this post. Having a hard time pinpointing the problem. Mine is shifted to the right also, but lines back up when adding another extension to the other side in symmetry with the controller.... Then when adding more extensions on the left, mass stays in the middle. Bizarre.
I tried putting the controller on the left and mass still went to the right, but adding another extension on the left side still did center it up. I'm going to try and a make another bp with the controller system subtracted... With my issue I'm guessing maybe some sort of BP or game save file corruption.
I just got my extension mass to work. The placement of the controller was glitching it somehow, which shouldn't have mattered. System loaded with 320k V/ 125 L Thrusters.
I gave up on this issue I just try to have my HVs with plenty of hover engines so it wont affect the tilting as much.
