Just a random thought that struck me out of left field as I was looking through my saved games this morning trying to figure out which ones I should keep and what ones I won't play anymore. I noticed that I've been sticking with the same seed number for ages now. I don't know if it's subconscious or habit but I seem to instinctively input a certain seed when I start a new game. It has the best layout and resources that I've found and now it's even better with 1.0 release. Seems I have lucked out and there's 3 Abandoned Assembly Yards (vanilla temperate) to pillage...loot galore. I was just curious if anybody else sticks with the same seed each time a new game is started or do you tend to either let the game pick or randomize a seed when you start a new game.
To my knowledge, I have never played the same seed twice. I like not knowing what the new world holds or what mix of challenges will be. With my current new start there is plenty of ore, but few legacy POI's, and the ones that are there are about 100 meters from a massive Zirax colony.
I always let the game version and build number decide my seeds. For example, V1.1.6 B3079 would be 1163079 seed. I also typically just name my save with the version and build number I started it in.
Earlier I gave the games names, like Ragnarok, Last Ditch, No Hope, Outcast...and so on. Also I used Game Version Numbers, like A10.Seednumber and such. Currently I use similar numbering like krazzy by just put the Buildnumber in.
So, lemme get this straight. If I use the same seed, then the planet and all the POIs and stuff will be the exact same from game to game?
Yuppers, it's exactly the same if you start on the same kind of planet. Mine for instance was the temperate starter in Vanilla but this seed seems to work well for me for all. Coincidence...perhaps. Just seems whether it's Vanilla or Eden for me, my seed number is really good. I can collect everything I need fairly early and head on out to the distance stars for some challenging places.
I can see how that may be fun for some. But kinda takes the early "exploration" part out of the equation as well as learning to cope with whatever new challenges the starter world may offer.
I leave it as random. Same seed means the exact same planet, solar system, and galaxy. Everything will be in the same spots and have the same things on it.
Fair point @ravien_ff but I just used the vanilla temperate as an example. I've started on vanilla arid, swamp and snow as well as the same ones plus jungle in Project Eden (I ain't touching the WTF OMG planets...hehe). All those planet layouts are different but tend to have easily accessible stuff. ie: at least 1 medium promethium in a non-claimed territory area, at least 2 or 3 POI's like the Assembly Yard for loot, etc. Yes, I agree the planets in the starting system are the same which can be tedious for some. However let's face it, especially in Project Eden, once you leave the starter system there are literally millions of different systems and planets out there to explore. Take a left turn instead of a right and you're in a completely unknown area. I can totally respect everyone's opinion on this and it seems that most like to jump around. I just prefer my little slice of EGS.
