Why is scrapping a crashed capital ship like playing Jenga?

I mean it is kinda funny when you scrap one too many blocks and the whole thing crashes down, but seems odd when sometimes its the first panel of glass you touch.

That is because most capital ship pois (the ones on planets, meant for you to salvage) you encounter are indeed bases and underly structural integrity rules. Controverse rule brought in by Eleon to keep people from building too big, as it prevents you from building too wide bases as they´d just collapse. Just like the "capital ship" pois.

I prefer it this way...I like cutting the bottom out and then just mass collecting all of the large chunks that fall.

I find it terrible convenient when I'm converting POI's into materials - one little shot from my multi-tool and I'm showered in free materials. Much better than expending multiple multi-tool magazines to achieve the same thing.

I'm also certain the Structural Integrity rules were not implemented to limit the size of bases, in fact, I know that's not the reason, as I have built some massive, complete bases. The only thing it does do is prevent you from having long, unsupported structures - unsupported being the key word.
