    We need suggestions

The gun play in-game is pretty poor in general but I was wondering if there is something I can adjust to make it feel more "fun"

My buddy and I are old-time FPS players and while a bit old (slower reflexes) are still pretty spry :) and in practice

    Problems:
    Dying 5 - 30+ times when taking a POI
Getting killed with 1 shot (wearing epic armor)
    No crouching
    Choppy
    Poor AI

For bad AI - try the Reforged Galaxy scenario or other scenarios based on it. Also look at its settings in the configuration file (section "Realistic Combat Mode").

As for everything else, in principle, with a careful passage, the number of deaths can be minimized with the current gameplay: the stock of medicine \ the use of tunnels in the POI area \ "lockpick" sv from xcaliber \ the active use of drones as scouts.
The current FPS suffers more from known bugs and inconveniences - when the npc shoots at you through the wall, when you can't shoot through an incomplete block.
You can change the parameters of the weapon \ hp of npc for yourself to achieve the gameplay that is close to you, although this is laborious and time-consuming.

I hate to say it, but get better. There's no excuse for dying taking a POI.
One shot from what? An alien plasma turret? These are designed for shooting ships, what chance would anyone have behind 3 layers of Epic Heavy Armor?
Been asking for it for years. Zirax can do it, we should be able to as well.
I average 170 FPS, nothing choppy here.
AI is AI. None of them are all that great in the first place.

This is usually because your armor is broken. There are still things that can one shot you of course like rockets.

If you are using a dedicated server, then look in the mod directory:

    C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ steamapps \ common \ Empyrion - Dedicated Server \ Content \ Scenarios \ Reforged Eden \ Content \ Configuration \ Config.ecf

If you are using a CO-op game from a regular client, then look in the workshop content folder on server-pc:

    C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ steamapps \ workshop \ content \ 383120 \ 2154284616 \ Content \ Configuration \ Config.ecf

These are examples of directories from my server - you may have different drive letters \ directory names, etc. Also take a look at the other files in the Configuration folder. Of course, if you change something, then when updating the mod you will have to manually check the configuration files.

In the attached file, for example, the contents of my settings. Of course, I had to change some parameters in other files to make my life easier :)

I really wish they could fix it so the belt/tool bar didn't lag all the time. At first I thought it was just me but then I noticed it happens to the streamers I watch all the time too. It's really irritating when you are trying to switch weapons or to healing items.

As for actual solutions, prepare yourself before heading into a dangerous POI. Make sure your weapons and equipment are in good repair. Check that you have a decent stock of medical and survival supplies. Make more ammunition or explosives if you're running low. If you don't have one, build a decent hauler H/SV with turrets to haul loot, provide logistics access to supplies, and keep the outside clear of hostiles. If you have any gear you'd like to have handy but don't want to risk losing, leave it on your hauler. Make sure your body armor is properly outfitted for combat.

Once you're ready to approach the POI, take your time and pay attention to your surroundings. You may have already smashed up the external defenses, but there will be further surprises waiting inside. Keep your survival tool on salvage mode to scan blocks, keeping an eye out for trapdoors and hidden sentry guns. Always make sure to investigate and secure a room before attempting to access loot containers. NEVER touch a switch if you can help it. Keep several guns on your toolbar, and fall back if you have to reload them all. Don't hesitate to use a rocket launcher or plasma cannon on a crowd of enemies, large hostiles, potential hidden sentry guns, or anything that moves.

The biggest improvement to ground combat would be if the game didnt freeze for a second when you are about to shoot something after rounding a corner, with the result you get shot instead. Presumably this is so the AI code can spend half a second figuring out how to aim to shoot you in the face at point blank range...

Its like the enemies a have a time freeze cheat.

ei, we still cant crouch (nor lie down) but... now we have nicer planets ring ¿?¿?¿¿?

kneel and lie down have been so old and repeated request as I can read here and on so many topics about Empyrion :
-is there a reason why many others not that many asked update are coming before that one?
-or is there some reason why kneel/lie will never happen?

    thanks in advance for answer,
    have nice game.

I really don't know what people expect crouching will do for ground combat. The only times I can recall doing it is in games with stealth, complex recoil mechanics, dodge rolling, or other systems Empyrion doesn't have. I probably crawled through some vents at some point as well.

I've heard some say they want to crouch behind cover, but what cover is there? Furnishings and vegetation tend to evaporate under weapons fire. Sometimes there are random structural blocks, but they're usually as tall as a player anyway. I cannot recall encountering any situation where I've wished I could hide behind a nearby half wall or similar block.

I would VERY much prefer reliable positional audio over crouching. Gunshots and chatter that always sound like they're coming from between my ears are not very helpful for locating enemies.

You're mixing basic crouching with like Assassin's Creed cutscene mechanics? Those aren't the same thing at all. Crouch and prone are two basic fps controls for every fps game for well over 25 years at this point.
Dodge rolls and all that are specialized movesets. Those are fun, but by no means basic. When Halo: CE came out the NPC's could dodge roll, and it wasn't until halo 3 or Reach (idr which) several years and sequels later that became a move for players. Even without prone, crouching is pretty basic. DOS games had crouching. Comparing that to vent crawls and dodge rolls is madness.

What do you want crouching to actually do for you, though? Reduce recoil? Reduce enemy shot accuracy against you? Lower enemy perception radii? These are reasonable asks (if anyone would bother asking for them), but they're more involved than simply shrinking the hit box a little and lowering your viewpoint.

Shooter games have crouching and crawling, but they also have maps and systems designed to make use of these movement methods. Gordon Freeman could crouch down to reduce his noise level and break line of sight, allowing you to make the first shot count. Warframes use crouching as part of an extremely aerial skill-based movement system. Fallout 4's Sole Survivor used crouching as part of its stealth system, but it also was used to brace weapons and function as a soft-popup-shooter system.

This is simply no use case for crouching in today's Empyrion. The game's terrain is by and large flat with vegetation that provides little cover and zero concealment. It's dominated by heavy weapons mounted in vessels and structures. Survival depends on dodging or digging holes. POIs are close quarters affairs involving lots of back-and-forth hip firing. Thus far, they've been designed with players in mind possessed of drones and jetpacks. Success against them requires constant observation of one's surroundings and fast reaction to any change. Simply crouching down in either situation would be tantamount to sitting down and waiting for the respawn menu.

By all means, ask for a pony. Ponies are great. You're going to need more than just the pony, though. For starters, you also need to ask for a saddle and stabling. It would also help a lot if you were to explain in greater detail what you're going to do with the pony, where you're going to ride it, your plan for caring for it, and how to address some of the potential problems a pony might cause. If you can provide satisfactory answers these questions, a pony starts sounding like a rather reasonable request.

Crouching to hide behind something lower than your height is useful when being chased by a hoard of zirax, drones etc. Within 5 minutes of a fresh start today I found myself thinking crouch would be really handy to drop down behind a rock to avoid being shot by a drone, so I could pop back up again once it was in range of my gun.

You dont need fancy mechanic a lot of the time, just the simple make your hit box smaller when outside.

Take cover man. Just reducing the size of the hitbox to momentarily hide behind something. All those extra bells and whistles are gravy.
Quick question: when a Zirax crouches behind a crate, is it harder to hit him than when he's just standing?
And that's all there is to it

I don't get it. You want to crouch behind cover that doesn't protect you to hide from Zirax that can see and shoot you anyway?

The Zirax are easier to kill when they hide behind crates. I use that opening to run/jetpack up and shotgun/chainsaw them in the face. That's assuming I don't just blast them and the crates both with heavy weapons.

My biggest issue with the run & gun gameplay is AI navigation. The enemies get stuck everywhere, are unable to use elevators, and are essentially incapable of finding their way around almost any kind of obstacle or situation. This leads to a myriad of exploits, and even worse, the game seems to have been designed around their existence (at least in hard mode) as a lot of gameplay is all about finding a position where you can shoot the AI but it can't (or won't) react and shoot you back.

Other than that, there is huge room for improvements in every area. Animations and models are poor, feedback is poor (a simple impact confirmation mark around your crosshair, something common in many FPS, would be a good addition), sound is really, really bad (or even a placeholder in some cases, such as the many mobs using spider sounds), etc.

I don't think the game really needs a very sophisticated AI. In fact, I wish the game took more hints from very early shooters (even Doom'93), for example giving hitscanners aiming delays (with sound cues). Early shooters had extremely basic AI but still managed to provide great gameplay using tricks like requiring distinct tactics against different mobs and playing with encounter compositions.

To be honest, sometimes the janky nature of combat fits the game despite making it unfair (exploring POIs can be pretty terrifying) and some will complain that changes such as those could make the game easier. I'd prefer an easier game without all the jank, though.

I think much of the reason people want to "crouch" is it seems like a natural thing to do when taking fire...either move or get behind cover. If they added that it reduces a weapons recoil or enhances accuracy then it would be even nicer. I also think a leaning mechanic may even be more useful than a crouch, as there are times I have wanted to just peek around a corner, but suddenly my entire hitbox seems open to the baddies. But, I go back to the fact that more body movements, relevant or not, will enhance the play factor by making ones character feel more like a creature and less like a very slow vehicle.

I would like to see enemies react a bit more to being shot at. Sometimes when engaging the zirax, Ill nail a dude right in the dome and he just kinda keeps walking towards me. Seeing them at least try to run more often would be nice...you know...like they perhaps value not dying a little.
