I was tinkering around with some of the configuration files and figured I'd give wireless connection a look. This is what I found in the BlocksConfig.ecf file for the RemoteConnection item:

Range: 100, type: int, display: true

I figured I'd change that value to say, 1000, and see what happens. Well it does sort of work. I can get the Wifi to go to about 200m. Doesn't get the full 1000m range though, even though in game its displayed at 1000m.

So what I think is happening here is once the block goes out of render distance, it no longer functions. I wonder if anyone else has had any luck extending the range in the config files. Modding Empyrion is something I have very little knowledge on and only know how to edit a few things here and there.

But for anyone who wants to double the range, I know at least how to do that. If you're in singleplayer and not using a scenario. You can just go to the \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Empyrion - Galactic Survival\Content\Configuration\ folder. And make the edit in the BlocksConfig.ecf file there.

If you're running a scenario, point to the scenario's Configuration folder in the Workshop section (if from the workshop.

Works for dedicated server as well, just make sure to go to the \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Empyrion - Dedicated Server\Content\Configuration folder, or the Configuration folder in the Scenario if using one.

Of course before making any edits, backup the file before editing it in case something breaks. Also it will revert anytime there is an update to Empyrion or the Scenario (from workshop) if using a Scenario for this. So keep that in mind.

Just search for RemoteConnection and it will bring you to a list of values. Change the one listed above in bold to the number you want.

Accessing Cargo while not actually pointing at it. Basically, you use it either for building/repairing or Looting when you have M/V enabled.

Also the main way to transfer from one vessel/structure to another, or refuel, or rearm, or get full stacks of water from water processors, auto miners (IIRC), sticking bulk ingots in repair and factory etc.
