Well, it's been a long time. I stopped playing Empyrion quite a while ago after deciding to put it down and wait for it to reach 1.0 instead of burning out on it too soon. Now it has been released so, it's high time to give it another run. I haven't played much yet since reinstalling but, so far it appears that there has been a lot of improvement and additions. Huge new galaxy map, better arranged star systems, prettier planets from space, some new creatures, new parts, factions, logistics. I particularly like the "pilot mode" flight controls similar to what I'm used to in other mouse-based spaceflight games. It was a very pleasant surprise. And shields! I took note of the new CPU system as well but, I didn't dive into that yet and left it turned off for now. May try it out when I build a new ship but, I think my current ships will be too large to support it (I tend to build large, limit breaking battlestars). I was rather disappointed to find that you still can't use NPC spawners on your own bases. Or recruit NPCs in some other manner. The lack of NPC troops to back you up was possibly the main reason I stopped playing back then. Also still no AI control for your own vessels as far as I can tell. No point building bases and fleets of ships if you're just a one man show. The third-person camera controls for your character is still as sticky/laggy as ever, too. First-person is perfectly fine but, the third-person camera controls feel like you're trying to operate a spring-loaded analogue stick with a mouse. What's up with that? It's the one thing I expected to be fixed by now to be honest. But anyway, great to see the game still going strong, even after 1.0 release. Hope to sink a lot more hours back into it.
