Mass produced is more accurate than you know.
I started with a small CV that did not have warp capability, then built on behind it.
Then I kept adding on to the original, trying out different configurations.
Every CV you see in the picture below started as the CV in the lower right corner.
(I REALLY need to start a new design).

I like it very much. I have to as it is somewhat similar to my own CVs.

Great minds think alike. Or is that too presumptuous?
In any case, I like it.

Agree - its good practical basic shape that seems to stand the test of time well.

The starter CV I use has the same kind of layout, long narrow, tiny fly through side facing hangar etc. I have been through loads of attempts to do something 'better' and always end up coming back to the same simple one just because its cheap to make, slightly bigger versions don't actually add anything useful, but just add a load of extra mining before you can build it etc.

Mine however is a very boring minimal design, but it is kept as small as possible to fit inside a 13x7 hangar so I can continue to use it as a landing CV into late game. Even so, it remains a solid starter CV for me to collect the massive amounts of resources needed for a good mid game combat CV and other vessels and bases etc that I use.

    Hi everyone.
Here I am resuming the journey after a goose entered my pc (untitled goose game, my daughters took my computer from me:p).
Already back in the game, traveling from system to system just for traveling.
I didn't notice all the enemy CV updates out there! And dangerous!
I tried to loot a Zirax outpost in space and didn't pay proper attention.
The result was a shower of fireworks on my CV (courtesy of a dreadnought) that lost the ability to jump (engine and tank), lost half of the thrusters and was left with the ability of a turtle to move in space.
Then I have the first problem that when losing propulsion on one side the CV cannot reach a speed of 0m / s (it even had -6m / s, yes negativa!) which left me unable to leave the command chair to make quick repairs.
I had made a save at a time when I was escaping the attack, so I reloaded the game at that point. Now it was moving and could reach 0m / s, even lacking propulsion from one side.
Leaving the command chair I can replenish the propulsion that I lack and return to the controls just being attacked again!
This is where I have my second problem (aside from laser rain). The logic that commands the CV on and off did not re-ignite the propulsion:eek::mad: !!
I don't know what was wrong! It had a generator, it had fuel but no propulsion:eek:!
Before SCOTTY could get the thrusters on line EVERYTHING exploded around me !! Goodbye generators and goodbye fuel tanks !!! STANDED IN SPACE o_O.
I was so overwhelmed that I didn't even take a screenshot.
My CV was like an apple eaten on both sides!
    Abandon the Ship !!!
Running to the hangar I rescue everything I can and jump into space with the SV that for some reason is not attacked.
I go down to the nearest planet and seek refuge.
After an accommodation I return to the rescue of the remains of the CV.
With speed as if he was pushing the CV with his hands, he entered the planet with the great luck of plummeting between 1? ... no! ... 2? ...not! ...3? ...NOT! 4 Bases that start firing !!!!:rolleyes:
Again at the pace of a flying turtle, the CV is taking distance, leaving one or another piece on the road ...
    Here the next problem!
Repair bay N2 tells me there is no template saved !!!!!:eek::eek:
I ask at this point, how often do I have to save? The previous game had saved the plane. Even the bay told me that the last had been 19 hours before. But he refused to restore the lost CV.
Thinking about what to do, I decide to just do bulk repairs and load the iron order -> 650 iron approximately.
Another known problem with the bay is that it repairs and continues to repair, requests more materials, and never completes the repair.
OK. The final decision is to disassemble the CV and generate another with the materials (1H 15 min).
It was definitely not my night !!

...no! ...3?

If its any consolation, even if you have a CV that can kill that dreadnought in under a minute, you can still end up with a couple of hours of repair bay time for your troubles, so not even worth dealing with the damn thing even if you can.

It happens that my CV does not have a double wall for protection, I do not use a shield and the firepower is very low. Long ago I put aside PV battles as they disappeared. It was not worth the effort.

Sucede que mi CV no tiene doble pared como protección, no uso escudo y el poder de fuego es muy bajo. Hace tiempo que deje de lado las batallas con PV ya que desaparecían. No valía el esfuerzo.

I took a look at the Barracuda in your workshop. Reading the description, I realized we seem to share a similar design philosophy. All my thrusters, fuel tanks, weapons and other equipment/devices are accessible from either inside or outside the ship. My main engine bays are large multi-level spaces in which to service everything...or nearly so.
Also, my CVs are derived from this first original design.

I guess great minds think alike.
For me, all my designs have to be believable (able to access everything you need W/O using the console) and safe for the player.
No hotspots from the thrusters, or radiation from the warp core in player sections.
I take great pains to keep my builds practical and safe.

It has been interesting because I also update all my builds as new releases come out (with new hazards).
Even my builds that were released in 2016 are CPU-compliant and safe for players.

As for what I did today, total goof around. I wanted to see if you could make a working HV with only 1 hover thruster. Turns out that you can. It's ugly but it flies.

Pretty much, I wanted to know if it could be done (and work)
The thing is ridiculously fast & cheap to make, I'm surprised it works so well.

So today I built my "IW Topaz T4 Destroyer" and it surely is a beast. And as its last name implies it will consume enemies with that ridiculous fire power. But as with everything in life that are some notable disadvantages:
    1. Buying ammo will make you poor if you don't pay attention. Disabling a few turrets with expensive ammo will help to save ammo for a more dangerous threat.
    2. Wifi connection is so far from the front that I still have to find the best position to park closer to its victims

But oh boy, I'm very satisfied so far. I even think I saw some Zirax ships fleeing on sight.

I decided to start honing my design skill trying to come up with a good solid starter SV. I find that in most of my play throughs I skip the HV step, as I find an SV far more useful in both speed and scouting.

So my requirements are at least 10K storage, 2 miniguns and 2 turrets. After spending a few hours I was able to come up with a new design that I was pretty darn happy with. I built it out of cargo extensions and carbon substrate almost exclusively. When I added the fuel/O2/generators (and wifi I believe) the sucker came in at around 5,995 CPU. But, it flew and I really liked what I had designed. Finally learning to use angles and how the pieces fit together. Though getting them aligned still escapes me and I sit there smashing the end and del key over and over.

I was so excited about my new creation that I fired up a new survival game to test the "new player experience" with it. I was pleased that after about 30 minutes of hitting surface rocks, a silicon and copper deposit, and harvesting some biofuel I was able to spawn it in. So I thought "This is perfect! A fast SV with good storage at under an hour of playtime!" Then I hopped in to go scouting and realized...I forgot to add a detector.

My goal is to have the starter SV to be independent of needing a small constructor so the player (me) can perhaps find a better location for their base. So I went back into creative, adjusted some blocks and added a detector. I did notice this added titanium to the build cost, which isnt too terrible as the Heidelberg has hardened steel plates, so its a simple matter of locating the wreck and salvaging a block or two.

My ultimate goal is to be able to build something that slightly mirrors the utility of the MERC MX5E in that I can build it within an hour of firing up a new game, but it has space already allotted for upgrades so I can take it from T1 to T2 (at least) and be able to add a warp drive and perhaps a shield. I want a ship I can use exclusively from the "I need to gather materials for my starter base" to "I need to travel to the next planet over for materials for my starter CV".

I used to do this kind of thing. Now I tend to go for ultra cheap specialized vessels that get me over a specific hurdle quickly and very cheaply so that I can build something much better sooner.

Some of my bigger builds, I will put a wifi at the front and the back. For example, my Large Rest BA has a wifi at each corner just for the range as it is measured from the wifi device itself and not the center of your blueprint.

    A12 Creative_2020-09-17_14-12-18.jpg

I don't think any of my CV on the workshop are big enough that I did this. Though I have several WIP that cannot fit on my smaller pads and would need a BA like the Large Rest pictured above. Once my CV gets a little bigger I typically do put multiple wifi on the CV at strategic locations to maintain wifi reach with the vessel.

Interesting. I think I'll have to follow that strategy as well. Parking sideways is working but it's still very sensible (ie. can't access F4 from trading stations).

Also having a play with stupid wacky things you can build as a really low level HV.

So - here is the 'Meat Wagon' :)

It is basically a lvl3 unlock butchering HV. You get a choice of chewing them up with the meat grinder or just plain shooting them :)
Includes an RCS so you shoot upwards too for annoying drones.

It started life from my hover bike when I realised that a fridge has the same cargo space as a cargo container and yet is only half the size, so 4 fridges instead of two cargo containers. Then the thought goes - erm this would make for a great plant and animal connecting HV, so it gets guns and a meat grinder.

Guns and meat grinder mean it needs ammo box and an ore box, so it can cut a tree as well - Yes - one tree, or two if you are lucky as that fills the ore box!

Anyway, figured it looks like something out of Mad max or the wacky races (anyone remember that from when they were a kid?).

Yes, protection from heat and radiation are an issue with me in my builds. Where I can't readily isolate from RAD/HEAT, I provide warning signs, emergency showers and lockers for appropriate gear to be in such areas along with nearby escape hatches. 2020-10-28.png 2020-10-28 (1).png 2020-10-28 (2).png
