Is anyone else having the same issue? I have joined servers, and everything is going great. I leave the starter system, get all set up with a base and everything, and as soon as I'm really getting going... I log on one morning and get the 'Choose Starter Planet' screen. It's as if the game waits for you to get to a certain level of development, and then, lubes you up and bends you over the desk. I have literally restarted from scratch 4 times, and this morning, here we go again, on the (DE) RhZ server... Are we not supposed to actually get anywhere in this game, or are these privately hosted servers all just basically full of... ?
The game just released a pretty major update and because of that update most servers have been wiping fresh. It sounds like you just had bad timing at getting started and fell in the middle of such wipes. There have also been a lot of bugs surrounding the most recent update and that may have also caused some servers to wipe multiple times trying to resolve those issues. So likely bad timing and/or bad server choice. I have no experience with that server so can't say for sure.
There are clearly some issues with the game at the moment. I started a new game, and now I can't access my portable constructor. I can pick up stones, pick plants, etc. with 'F', but it won't give me access to a newly placed porta-constructor. Not building anything like this. Methinks I should give the game a few days for them to patch, de-bug, etc. Could be worse. Could be playing Cyberpunk
