I understand that. And I'm saying that's not how it should be. Those other things are what someone referred to as minutia, to be attended to in due course. It's my opinion that cross-hairs, in and out of ships/vessels, are more important and more urgent in nature. I'll step off the soapbox now and return to trying to get along with cross-hair at hand.
Agreed...fixing a well known issue that detracts from game play like a bogus cross-hair is not the same as making an aesthetic change, even one as neat as the warp animation. One has a direct impact on game play, the other on game looks alone.
It's not my fault ! You guys are too serious... always... If you can read this, you don't need anither crosshair !! .
I know...I know. Perhaps I take this issue too seriously, but I find it so FRUSTRATING!!! A couple of years ago, at the suggestion of some of my friends in the community, I acquired UNITY software in hopes of greater understanding of how things worked. Unfortunately, I am a lazy s.o.b. and never really got into it as I had planned. The upshot of this is I don't want to spend my time trying to create fundamentals for the game. I like being able to tweak things here and there, but that's all. I have no desire to be a dev.
I think in the present case it would have been useless, as I think the reason why Unity refuses to open these files is because they have been obfuscated when packed...
Crosshair options have been wished for many times. Hopefully something easy to add, when most bugs and main game mechanics are done. Some shapes and colors to choose from, maybe even a hotkey (changeable) to switch between 3-5 you have chosen.
I totally agree we must to be able to change Crosshair size and/or color, in a space game the HUD is the main piece of the user game. Except that point I like very much this game, but that to little and not visible Crosshair wnen I can see it, is very very bad. Please let us setup our HUD and specialty the Crosshair
Welcome to the forum mate. They are giving you the option to change the crosshair in 1.4, which is great news. I can get back to playing the game. https://empyriononline.com/threads/experimental-v1-4.96837/
Hallelujah!! I hope it won't be as complicated as it sounds. I get the impression it's for those who create their own scenario files.
It will indeed only work in a Custom Scenario. the Default SP Game is different setup then a scenario and will ignore Modding and Decals
I retract my hallelujah. I'm highly disappointed, but not surprised. I really don't understand. Be grateful you have better eyes than I do. I would continue but all the words I'm thinking are not allowed.
The Crosshairs got fixed that they should scale with your Screen Resolution. This should make it better for you
I would also like to say how disappointed I am that we can't change it in Single Player. Looks like I will have to retract my statement in the Experimental 1.4 thread "I can get back to playing the game again." Oh well, back to playing Minecraft. It isn't just the size that is the issue, it's the colour as well. The red crosshair blends in with the background so well that it virtually disappears in some instances. @krazzykid2006 explains it perfectly in this post. https://empyriononline.com/threads/v1-3-x-patches.96510/page-2#post-425446
@Spoon and @Track Driver : just make a new folder in the "scenario" section of your game and drop the vanilla game's PDA in there. From there you can mod whatever you want, and your "custom Default scenario" will fetch whatever it needs from the vanilla game if it doesn't find it in your scenario's folder. Let me check what you need to start a "vanilla" game in a custom scenario, but that should really not be more complicated than simply copying folders around. The "hard part" might just be making your own cursors, but I can help with that too. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here, short guide : This is all what is needed to start a "default game" inside a "custom scenario". Let me check cursors thing now. .
As was mentioned, it's pretty simple to make a "custom" scenario that is nothing more than the default random scenario and your modified crosshair. Then you start your SP game using that "custom" default random scenario. I have a strong feeling that plenty of people are going to be freely sharing their crosshair modifications here once this goes to stable. Would I prefer an easier way to accomplish this? Sure. Am I extremely happy about getting this at least? Abso-freaking-lutely!
Ok There is still a problem with color. I checked with the "default crosshair" setup, I also checked the "focused" version but that one is OK as it is only when the "original" cursor turns into a yellow square when the player aims at a device. If I use "pure white" this is what I get : So the crosshair turns red when aiming at anything. Adjusting size may help, but any color other than white will not improve things : It seems the "crosshair turns red" is not simply a color replacement but an overlay. I suggest the contrary : the "overlay" could be toned down a bit (less opacity) and "on" by default, and removed when the crosshair is on a target, so the crosshair will appear to "brighten up". Other option would be to have the "overlay" to be additive, like cranking up the gamma value or just adding "white" to the base crosshair's color, for the same "brighten up" effect. .
Well, that remains to be seen. 20JAN21 marks 5 years with EGS and nearly 7,000 hrs in game. Meaning no disrespect, but it seems a very long time to fix something so basic, assuming that it is fixed, imo. I don't put in anywhere near as many hours as I did in the first 2 years and now spend more time in building and tweaking what I built instead of the game largely because of the aforementioned crosshairs.
