    Probably just a fluke.

The only way that could've been funnier would've been if the drop pod actually hit the cutter and let you out on top of it...

    Oppsie.
Reminds me of the time I landed in the radar dish of an enemy POI (a long time ago).

I had a slightly different experience when I started a new game on the swamp planet.

    Hi all! :)

... Tried the seed, but the PV was on its landing pad (as it should be). So this could be an 'obscure' bug?
    - Which game mode was this? Singleplayer? Did you play other game sessions before, with the same running EGS 'main game'?
(Had it once, that the day time didn't reset when I came from Debug mode and started Survival...)

    Much thanks for that info!
It seems, the escape pod spawning position is a bit off there... The entry for the pod starting position is missing.
Right now there is a chance you will not land directly on the (safe) Crashsite, but on the (likely unsafe) Heath - Which looks very similar.
... But the Heath close to the Crashsite has a drastically reduced count of enemies, so this 'pod offset' might not be as obvious to other players starting on this world. They even may have thought, that a raptor attack that close to touchdown is intended- Since the description talks about lots of fighting.
I've re-checked my original files, this bug must be ancient.
You hit the jackpot with this one! :p
