Hey there, Im stumped with how to get round this. I came from the Game NoMans Sky, loved the concept but the creative options for ships wasnt there, and why wouldn't you want a battleship! Anyway, I play with 3 others, all of us from different time zones, 5 hours apart minimum. In Nomans Sky who ever logged in first would host the game, then everyone else join it. when we logged out individually we all made a personal save. The next day when we all returned, who ever was first started the session again but everyone else who joined had their contributions added to the server when they logged in, so we could all log in and play as we had time but all shared a world. Is there any way to accommodate this here, I can join a coop game with them, but I dont get a copy of the save so I can never play in my time zone on that world, its obviously local host but is there any way to say, share a steam cloud save for instance between us? so we all get a updated copy?
Your only real option is to use a dedicated server instead of co-op. Then you can just leave the server up or give everyone control of the server to start it up and shut it down. Other than that you would have to share a copy of the save every single time you all stop playing and play around with file manipulation (not recommended for many reasons).
Thanks, Im in no rush to fiddle with files like that Would be nice if the game offered small dedicated servers for say 6 people max. It loooks like it has so many possibilities with survival. Reminds me of space engineers only you dont actually need a degree to build in it lol
You can run a dedicated server for any number of players (up to a max), but you'll need to either use your own hardware or rent it from a server host. Some hosts are very affordable if none of you have a PC able to run a server.
Another reasonable option is to simply play on the official server or another one. You can check the discord, there's a channel in there for server advertising.
It's also worth noting that if your only planing to have one or two people on at a time you really don't need high end hardware to run a server. I'm running a small server on a machine with a i3-4170T and 8GB DDR3 with absolutely no issues what so ever. Though messing around with my firewall and port forwarding to actually get things working properly was a... learning experience.
Theoretically you could set up a google drive account and share the folder with your friends. Then each of you would have to set up your google drives to sync the save game folder. There are a couple other files you would need to put on each computer too, like the MyDedicated.yaml and AdminConfig.yaml And the scenario
