Excellent! It'd make the traders much more interesting with recurring missions.
And it makes sense. Some trader may want to hire you to avenge his son, others may ask for help in difficult time with resources.
I imagine they awarding you with epic weapons or some rare items, also increasing reputation among their race because you're getting famous.

The random missions in a config file would be more like the dialogue config but with commands more suited to store variables and states so we could make missions within missions or sub-missions. The possibilities are endless especially with all the talented community we have. Only if that is technically possible, of course. :)

To add to this : I see traders also as a "hub" to get information, not necessarily "missions" but general information about what is going on in the vicinity or playfield/ planet. In many other games, the Innkeeper is the first guy in an area that the player can walk up to and ask for trivia, which then points to either specific individuals who look to hire or special events, etc. So this would be simple dialog with no quest attached to, but with many pointers to other quest triggering areas/ individuals.

This allows to distribute quests in different areas without requiring the player to always come back to the same point, or to follow a linear path.

Since traders are "attached" to an (usually) indestructible POI, they are the ideal candidates to have custom audio lines (via audio decals triggered by dialog) to be played when players interact with them. That may not be everyone's cup of tea though, as minimally decent "voice acting" is still required to make it sound engaging, but I'm sure many players have some hidden skills...

That'd also be great if the information could reveal potential threats or treasures nearby. Or something in the lines of:
"See that planet over there? I hear's full of Erestrum just waitin' to be taken."
"There are rumors of a Talon shrine somewhere in this galaxy that could take you to Empyrion."
I'm not sure how this can be perfectly tied in a random generated world but it'd make lore so much more intriguing.

And since we now may have custom blocks for items, we can have traders handing out a custom items to be delivered or received by them.
"Bring me the head of the Zirax commander who killed my family." :D

Voices, Audio Responses! That's something I can really embrace. But @Kassonnade is correct. It requires a bit of vocal talent to be convincing. I don't suppose we could get Lance Hendriksen or Kiefer Sutherland?

All those things would require tutorials if not in video, at least very extensive written ones.

it's all well and good! but what is the slow ness with the function that you can sit down or lie down with your character? or that you can walk around on your ship who it moves. These are essential features for a survival game!

All in good time - no ETA for both of them as both are pretty COMPLICATED to Program properly.

    ...I REALLY DON'T KNOW!

But even if so...it will take even longer to bring them into the game...(IMHO)

Just as a follow-up, I updated my GeForce Experience today (I have an RTX 2070 Super) and they had the Unity DLSS update notice right on the front page, so nVidia is as excited as Unity.

There was a link to the Unity announcement on YouTube, so here you go if you want to see it in action and more info about what it does. The Unity guy in the video is the prototype geek, you'll love him. :D

EDIT: Just for fun, here's another video nVidia is sharing about a new game Mortal Shell where they have DLSS enabled:

I know all that. Now, this version is not implemented in Empyrion yet.

Yep, the rollout of the update to the Unity Engine isn't until later this year, and of course the Devs would have to incorporate the new features and (I imagine, not a programmer) have to recompile with the changes added.

Like any major software feature update they'll have to ensure it doesn't totally blow up things ;), and with them working so hard on the storyline, Factions, and other announced upcoming changes, it will probably not see release (IMHO) until very late this year or even early next at the soonest I'd imagine. You don't just blithely throw a new version of your whole programing engine into the mix because there's a cool framerate update from nVidia in it ... !

Just wanted to share some info I ran across on the tech for others who were interested in what it did and what we MIGHT see in the future.
    Cheers!

The future may be (I wish) that we stop creating obsolescence just to generate revenue. This means build devices and tools so they can sustain upgrades and repairs to a reasonable extent.

The way we consume and spoil the planet now for unneeded things or botched enginnering has to stop.

So of course nVidia gets all excited, they're seeing units sales at the horizon. But these micro-steps in performance are just another flavor of things and methods from an old world condemned to change or disappear.

It would be far more profitable and efficient, for example, to optimize the game instead of refactoring code just to use another hardware feature that will only benefit those who have a RTX class GPU. Optimization will benefit everyone, and it's recommended to eat green vegetables many times per day too.

I truly agree with you on this; but that said, it is the world in which we live. My personal fav "pet peeve" is the creation of ink jet printers with purposely different cartridges and no way to replace a clogged head (Yes I know some Canons' have it but it's cost ineffective ON PURPOSE) resulting in a throw away culture for printers. We used to FIX printers but now ... it's bad? Toss it. Insane.

But again, we can't control that, it's the society we created giving corporations free reign to do as they please in the search for profits & 'growth'.

But I don't LIKE green vegetables ... :D I'm with ya, but that said, it is news for those who have such cards and there's no reason to object to the advancement of tech, or we'd be chipping stones to write. Unity has put the tech into their engine and there's no reason Elon shouldn't take advantage of it when they can. I certainly don't see it as needing to be a priority, but will enjoy it if / when it comes. Keep in mind this is being done by UNITY who makes the gaming engine, not ELON who simply uses the tool to make the game.:)

Don't worry, I read Chomsky too... But he says we can do better !

Sure, but we all know how it's a breeze when they update Unity version...

AND how it will work out for all Player whose Systems do not receive any further support by NVIDIA because their Riggs are simply - for Nvidia - to old. Therefor those "small" improvement steps could have a sudden impact on many Players out there who cant afford to buy new Riggs or US$ 700+ Graphic Cards...

    Hi Everyone!

I would like to ask you about future updates:

    - When will be possible to merge or discouple ship parts with the proper blocks? (I would love to see some kind of special blocks for this)
    - In which update will be ship stuttering adressed? (like npc "movement")
    - Will Empyrion have some kind exploration feature addition / rework in 2021?

You mean the double cross. Such a fresh and original idea in video game storytelling.. I NEVER would have expected that.
