This might have been already reported, but just in case:

I noticed that the early mission where you go through the teleporter in Kezzel's backroom to look for the crashed Terran SV, has a wildly varying difficulty level. This is probably not "as intended" as it's an early mission and a new player obviously can't tell the difference between "mission content" and "random encounter content".

Game #1: Went through the teleporter. The stun drones that I assume are part of the actual mission were there. However, when I stepped out and they gave a chase, more drones started appearing. Then more and more. At the end the minimap was full of red dots. There were something like 20 drones and 1 troop transport. This mission didn't go well and ended up being shot to pieces. What had happened was that the mission wreckage POI had spawned in the middle of all the high-level Zirax POIs and their drones got triggered by my presence.

Game #2: This time the stun drones were a bit further away, and more importantly all the other Zirax bases were behind them i.e. the mission wreckage POI had spawned at the edge of the Zirax territory. As even the stun drones were outside their engagement range I could simply walk up to the SV, fuel it, and fly away. No shots fired, no danger.

This is probably not "as intended"... :)

My interpretation is that there are now no minumum or maximum distances for where the mission wreckage gets spawned in relation to the Zirax bases, nor any guards against being spawned near the higher level Zirax bases. There probably should, because now the difficulty of this mission can randomly vary from "non-existing" to "impossible".

I guess the intent was that the player needs to take care of the stun drones to get to the SV?

To be fair, the SV was shot down. But no one knows/remembers if it was attacking or fleeing. Or it’s flight path, either.

    I totally agree!

I have noticed (and have been planning to start a thread about it) that there is currently a DRAMATIC lack of cohesion between the storyline and the POI difficulty, and I doubt that it's intended.

For example (just one of many): In the Temples; some Temples have spiders that obviously got into some containers and drank the wine. They wander around like they're drugged, my Grandmother could wipe them out with a broom. Then other Temples they're aggressive as hell. Makes no sense.

It's obvious to me that they dialed back the difficulty on some of the POI's for the early stages, but apparently not all of the POI's were adjusted so it's totally out of whack! One PIO you can basically jump over the threats, killing only if you need the meat, teeth or loot, next POI you are killed 20 times even if you're familiar with the layout and where the threats are.

THE STORYLINE IS POIs ARE WILDLY UNBALANCED!!!!!

Yes, I am indeed shouting. The recent changes of 1.5 have really helped the FLOW and CONTENT of the storyline, I think the Devs and the suggestions from the community have done a great job there, but the POI threat level is TOTALLY wacked out.

Some places it's TOO easy, and others will have you waking up in a sweat in the middle of the night remembering it.
That's not a bad thing ... in the proper order.

One example of this is Chapter 5 - The Ilmarinen. The difficulty level of that ship AT THIS POINT IN THE GAME is way too difficult. This level of difficulty should be WAY later. This is even illustrated by the PDA Entry for it, look at the Advice:

Wait. At this point you think the player has a CV?

I would suspect that 95% have barely scraped together enough for their SV at this point, unless they're very skilled or have played multiple times. The story EXPECTS the player to die repeatedly and sending them to that ship ensures it.

This is BROKEN. Very very broken. The difficulty level is all over the map, not a progression as it should be.

Yes, I think there should be harder and easier POI's. Yes, I think there should be some that are surprises and are hard to complete. Yes, I think it should be mixed up a bit.

But if the person is JUST following the Storyline, this is WAY too hard for this point in their journey.

    IMNSHO :p
