I disabled a Freighter, how can I interact with it?

    Hey all,

Just wanted to share this, to see what people think as my efforts appear to have gone to waste, unless there's a way around this...

Using my own CV I was able to disable a Zirax Freighter in orbit around my starting planet. He fired first FYI! My turrets took out his turrets first, then picked off a few of his Thrusters before landing a lucky hit on the ship's Core, disabling it. However, this Freighter is now drifting and spinning in space.

I can just about catch up to it in my space suit and I managed to place my own Core on it. I placed a Pilot's seat too, but I'm not allowed to access that. The ship is solid to me in the space suit, which is good considering it's moving, yet it pushes me back any time I approach a door, or other way into the ship - such as one of the holes I've made in it.

As the ship continues to drift, I'm moving further away from my own CV, so I returned to it. I then manoeuvred my CV into a position to block the drifting Freighter, but it passes right through my CV.

So, I have my "prize" with who knows what goodies on it, as well as some salvage in remaining Thrusters and other parts, yet I have no way to interact with it. This is a real shame!

    In summary:

    - Zirax Freighter is dead in space, drifting.
    - It's solid to me in the space suit.
    - It's not solid to my CV.
    - It repulses me in the space suit if I try to enter the Freighter.
    - I placed a core on it to make it mine, but cannot use the Pilot's seat I place.
    - If I could just stop the thing, I'm sure I'd be able to interact with it just fine.
    - I likely could use the Multi-tool on it, but it's tricky due to the movement. Not so much fun.

    Thoughts:

    - Players should get to keep their prizes if they win them through combat - that Pilot's seat should work.
    -
Disabled ships should stop moving due the the game's problem with moving ships.
    - I might just BP it, destroy it and spawn it in as mine to simulate a successful capture. I've done the work after all.

What do people think? Is there any way to legitimately access my prize, or do I need to work-around things using the console? Also, should the player get to keep ships like this, having their Pilot's seats actually work? Note: I'm playing Reforged Galaxy, so it's no mean feat to take out even a freighter. Many many hours have been invested to be able to do so relatively easily. As such, I think I deserve my prize! :)

Did you try ai off in the console ? Just to see if its stops the thing from turning, then ai on back to normal ?

I didn't try that one no, I'll try to remember it for next time, thanks. What I did in the end was take BP of the ship (Atherton Heavy Lifter) and try to spawn it in. It had forbidden blocks. So I used the console command "prefabinfo AHL" (I renamed the ship) and it reported the Alien Sentry turrets weren't allowed, nor were two Marker blocks it had. I took this into a Creative game, removed the offending blocks, and saved the BP. My plan is to spawn this into my Survival game to simulate me capturing it.

Oh, despite the vessel spinning, I did get close enough to use F4 to transfer cargo. I'd transfer a couple of bits, get nudged away (ship spin the cause of course) get closer, hit F4 again and repeat until I'd looted the thing. Of course, this might not have included any hidden loot, which I will have no doubt lost.

So, these ships are designed to be looted as they have Epic and other containers on them, but there's not easy to loot and I've had to hack to do it. Easy in a Single Player game, but not in a Multi-player one. What a shame it'd be to miss out after taking down an enemy CV! We need some gameplay around this, to make it legitimately possible...optional of course, but I'd enable it!

Quit to main menu and then get back into game. Fixed it for me.

Apparently it also works by changing playfield and then going back (reloading the playfield seems to stop this behaviour) but as this is the more time and resource consuming way just relogging is better.

Good suggestion @Alhira_K though it didn't work for me. I saved, exited the game before going back in and the Atherton Heavy Freighter was still spinning and drifting. That did surprise me and you'd expect it to work. Looks like the game is remembering drift / spin values in the save now. Interestingly, when I opened the console it did mention that something was drifting - it specifically used the work "Drifting" - but seemed to be referring to an unknown HV. I should have made a note of what it said.

If I get time this evening, I'll try to find and take out another Freighter and see how it plays out.

Update: I just beat up a Sunat-Class Corvette - damn that thing is tough - and when I disabled it, while it did drift / spin for a moment, it quickly came to a halt so I can interact with it just fine. Such a tough ship though and I took some scratches.

Had that spinning problem many times, I back away from the ship watching it's icon until the icon starts moving in increments near 4 km, defeated ships actually start "flying" their programmed routes even without thrusters, when you see it start to fly move back towards it and it will stop and won't be spinning anymore.

Ah this seems like just yesterday...but it wasn't, where did the year go? Lol.

This aspect of the game certainly needs some refinement. Disabling enemy capital ships is fun yet we're robbed of the (potential) reward due to incomplete game mechanics. It's been cited in the past that the colliders rework - essential for walking around on moving ships - is critical for such a feature to exist. I hope Eleon get to this one day. I get it's a lot of work for no immediate reward except in this aspect of game play, but I feel it's a pretty big deal and opens up the play options in the later game stages - somewhere that stagnates for me currently.
