Personally I have no interest in trading or talking with anyone in the game. I'd prefer to kill and loot every faction. The question I have is: if I do attack everyone will it kill off the storyline and therefore the progression of the game?

    Welcome to the forum.
If you go round killing everyone you meet then I can imagine that it would make doing the story line a bit difficult. In the story line you meet 'friendly' people that you trade with and do missions for. If you start to kill them then you will become unfriendly and they will attack you. I can imagine it would be hard to chat to someone and get a quest from them if they are all trying to kill you.
If you want to go round killing everyone and looting everything then maybe don't do the storyline for that game.
As for the progression of the game. You can do whatever you like in the game, you can make up your own storyline and then do whatever you want.

Probably, but after interacting with the mission UI for more than a couple of missions, then I am pretty much of a mind to kill everything anyway out of frustration, so sod it , let'em have it ;)

Simple answer regarding the story missions: yes. You won't be able to play most of the missions (Especially not if you kill the story NPCs and stations ;)

This thread gave me an idea - maybe we should have an empire mode where where the objective is to make all other factions subjects of your empire (or get eradicated) such that they end up paying you tribute in the form of materials :)

Those that will not bow before your might get systematically trashed until they give and start paying tribute (any become hostile to you enemies).

As it is, many of my game start with a bit trading with the talon - exchanging lots of bullets for plants :)

Attacking everything is easy. Also Polaris and Talons (as examples) do not have much loot, better to have them for trading, not much defenses either. Autominers on deposits or asteroid mining give faster resources than fiddling with multitooling most POIs. Just go for the rare and some devices.

Can always manually tick off storyline components, but then why activate it at all, for some free stuff?

Don't be surprised if find the game boring after done some blasting everything.

I maybe do the opposite, try finding ways to get close to a POI and take the core with as little damage as possible. Also attack only those that act hostile. I even rarely kill "friendly" animals, since mostly more than enough hostile ones. Or just trade to get food and meds, skipping farming. Normally also get to max level (XP) pretty fast doing this too.

Most have also done many playthroughs of the game, with different starter ways and playstyles/goals, so know what will happen if do some stuff a certain way or not.

That's more along my lines of play, though I have added some self imposed 'rules' like no starting gear and no pocket construction, along with not exploiting some of the early missions for POL and Talon (throw wood on the floor and pick it up again... lol) but I enjoy repeating the gunfire ones as I'm always on foot and often unarmoured.

Finding the blind spot or taking a couple of hits while getting near a defended POI is risky and enjoyable in early game and with ONE LIFE it's... challenging.
    yeah, love it

I'm glad to find more players that like to play with only one life. That was the metric that I gauged Empyrion bugs that I came across with: if I wanted to do a serious no-death playthrough, would this bug ruin that? If I mess something up, or it's just hard, that's not an issue. If the game flips out and boots me 5km away in space, that's an issue.
Or if i was doing a WR speedrun (idk what categories we'd even have for this game, any CV%? Land somewhere? Story i guess), what glitches would kill the run.
Playing the game that way makes some of the bugs a lot more critical, and also makes more sense to treat dying with some kind of importance

I started with the story line but gave up mid way through and just started playing the way I normally do, I decided also to kill just Pirates which made me friendly with everyone, mainly I wanted to see if I could just travel using teleporters. You can travel some but eventually you will find dead ends.

I am even friendly with the Zirax, but I am realizing that their friendship sucks, can't use their teleporters if they have them which I do not know. And being friendly with the Zirax means less POI's to hit.

I am at the point now I have done everything, all the way to the Legacy planet. I do wish the Legacy was more powerful on planet as they are in space.

Yeah fug it, kill them ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!
