Those look really good, much more distinct! Maybe it's too much to ask, but I would also like to see some variations of the same rock, like, 2 or 3 models (slightly different crystal sizes and locations, slightly varying stone bases). Even a seemingly small number of variations of a repetitive in-game object can do a lot for a player's perception of the game's diversity.
Just an echo on the comment @akimzav made ... this could add another dimension (quality) to ore that's currently limited to size of deposit. Here's various flavors of copper as found on Earth- imagine how jazzed you would be to find a native copper deposit early in the game.
Nice idea! It also presents an opportunity to add some depth to the mining aspect of the game via a dirt-cheap feature (in terms of the development time): tiered mineral scanners. Higher tiers would be able to detect deposits of lower mineral density, which would pair with the corresponding world generation feature (also dirt-cheap): the higher the mineral density, the less overall quantity there tends to be in a deposit. It would: Promote building specialized mining ships, because they: must be equipped with high-tier scanner can lift much more low-mineral-density ore now can actually outperform a guy with a drill in hand specifically direct their power/cpu on high performance scanners/drills/lasers, instead of weapons Diversify game visuals Diversify planet types
Liking the look here! Will these also be used for the small nodes seen with the ore scanner as well, when that opportunity presents itself?
The new Rocks (and other visual enhancements) look really great. Would love it if the size of the rock affected yield, not just time to harvest.
