1.8: Talon Story Tales of the Past needs to be rebalanced.

So, given that a new Hero starts on one of four Moons elsewhere in Orbit, by the time the Hero gets to Omicron they must be at least Level 10 and have a warp-capable SV.

Or, possibly not if they found the Destroyed SV in orbit and fixed it up, in which case they are minimum Level 7.

Now you get to "Tales of the Past" on Omicron, following the clues from your Starter system, and it feels all wrong.

The Talon Chief says "Survived on this planet for so long" .. I know the time dialation mystery of the story, but literally _just arrived_ in my starter CV no less, with medium armor and T2 weapons (because I warped to the asteroid belt first, found tons of undefended resource asteroids, so took advantage of that, and there was Colonist Trading Station literally in the way on my way here.)

So, I'm talking to this Talon Chief and he wants me to kill L1 spiders.

I realze I'm a bit OP but a normal start, following the happy-path, will _still_ be overpowered when they arrive here.

I think the Tales of the Past is a good story, a great bit of writing, but now that you're encountering this between L7 and L10, and just arrived from off-world in your own ship, it needs a major update in challenge and rewards.

 

Additionally:

The poisonous bite progresses too fast to have a chance to get back to the Shaman to even have a chance.

The dermal parasite you get from opening (exploding) the last door to get out of the Tower is what sends you to the Shaman.

1) The Shaman segment is wrong.
The recipe for Antitoxic Ointment needs an alien tooth. The Trader gives you only Confetti Moss Scrapings and an Herbal Leaf.
Which makes a nice Antibiotic Pill but not Antitoxic Ointment.

2) if you get bit by a spider ... you get Poisonous Bite Stage 1. You don't have the Antitoxic ointment yet. You might have mushrooms if you act fast. How Fast! Like, within seconds. Meaning stop combat, eat mushroom immediately.

There are more spiders. Killing them with Shotgun T2, one shot each, but by the time I kill the other five spiders (maybe 20 or 30 seconds) it has already progressed to Poisonous Bite Stage 2. Now there are tons of mushrooms nearby and a bunch of Herbal Leaves, so if I had like another minute, I'd be fine. But, as it stood, it progressed to Stage 2 before I could do anything, and then Organ Failure in a minute, and then dead in another minute.

So, way too hard for a low level character - it feels like the timer for disease progression is bugged and way too fast. I think a few minutes per stage is reasonable, not 20 sec.
