I would REALLY like to see the 'sleep until morning' ability restored. It's difficult in the early game to do things in the dark, but if there are only a couple hours until morning, I don't want to sleep for 8.

I agree. It may even be considered to present an option ... 1) Sleep until morning or 2) sleep XX hours (with XX to be filled in by the user/player)

    NECRO?
Sleep 8 hours is still a thing in 1.8. And way to annoying. It results in to many times calculating why do I sleep right now, what day do I have left. Some control over time chosen would be ideal.

On a side note of that. Possible sleep disturbance would be great. Sleeping in a tent is totally safe as is... your base is safe... your capital ship is safe.
( SP I am referring to of course. )

Being given a bit of control for sleeping duration should I feel really be a fairly strong objective for the devs, as has been pointed out losing 5 or 6 hours of valuable daylight early on in the game is wasteful, and the only option is to wander around in the dark for a couple of hours, and that can be deadly.
Also, as BushiNeko alludes to, a potential for interrupted/disturbed sleep could be good for the game too... providing the player could get to sleep first!
I've found that crashing at the friendly local's home/village, or even a Polaris Trade station can be put on hold by a hidden enemy (that probably doesn't even know you exist) and searching for that enemy at night is annoying to say the least (you cannot sleep now as there are enemies nearby)
I say let me sjeep and if I get caught with my pants down...I'll have to deal with it!

As an aside, could we have a Buff/Nerf for being Rested/Tired, as at the moment the only reason to sleep is to pass time! and back to the top... lol

Please, no. I wouldn't like to feel required to sleep to optimize some stat. That can get in the way of gameplay a lot. Passing the time is plenty of a reason.

I agree that there shouldn't be a mechanic that increases or decreases a stat based on sleep, but the ability to set x amount of time to sleep would be good and possibly if you sleep for 4+ hours it heals the player, y, amount of HP.

Perhaps an option for the buff/nerf in the lifestat settings, that way you could forgo them if you wish.
