I don't think that the missing Prices are a Bug but rather intentional. You will find many Traders who have Items or Devices without Prices for sell/buy. Some will only sell it, some will only buy it and other does neither. At least not yet. Maybe that sometimes later in the Game Development those items will be available but only with a certain degree of Reputation.
I too I find it odd that there are items in some trader stocks that have neither buy or sell prices, then it's better not to list them at all, they do no good in the list unless their status is temporary but which is not: the trader lists NEVER change in terms of goods traded, it would be very good if they did, but nope. Same with the long list of items used for reputation increase (don't remember their exact name), they are in the list but always useless, it only clutters the list. I guess they are just placeholders to modify by POI builders, but they disturb in vanilla game because new players think they should come back to buy/sell them which is wrong.
I can confirm this is a BUG and needs to be fixed. This is a global trader issue that arose in 1.5 stable update. It is not affected by game seed, location or trader type. Trade items affected are -Nitrocellulose -Carbon Substrate -Blue Pepper Sprouts Thank you for reporting this I simply have not gotten around to reporting it.
This bug is posing a problem for me as I'm stuck with a busted warp drive in my SV and the requirement for carbon to use the Polaris repair platform, yet the system is a barren metal planet and the only carbon is on the traders who won't sell them!
While first acknowledging that you are correct: if carbon is a basic resource, it should be a buy/sell commodity... ... as a work-around, you can always make carbon from crushed rock in almost any constructor (e.g. the portable one, but not your suit constructor). So if you have a working constructor, or access to one, you can dump crushed rock and make carbon from it, so you can use the repair platform.
Question on topic: When you see this issue happen, is the Carbon Substrate available in NO trading station at all in the galaxy or is it only some placements?
That is not quite true, to make Carbon Substrate you also need plant fiber, and if you are stranded on a planet with no plants and the vendors won't sell you any carbon, you're stuck. I ended up having to spawn some in so I could use the repair pad. PS. This is the case with every single NPC selling Carbon Substrate, there is no sell or buy price.
