No story driven gameplay

    One thing that could be awesome to have on new game starting page.

    1-start a new game
    2-choose survival
    3-choose between story mode or achievement mode
    4-on story mode nothing change unless devs add/modify current game content
    5-on achievement mode player is just stranded on random locations based on the level of difficulty selected, with no goals other than survive. Starting location should have Zirax, Polaris, Talon , Legacy and Colonist factions. Upon interaction with those factions player will unlock achievements and pointed towards some goals but nothing related to any story and unlock rewards based on character reputation with those factions.

    I totally agree, I got to the game and I can't find anything to do regarding the story or plot of the game, personally I won't return to the game until there are missions to play with my brother.

    It's not the point of my post. The game has a cool story as it is, but there's also room for improvement. But what I really meant was to add a feature on the game that is story free, no strains with anyone, you could side with talon or zirax just for the fun of it.

    Only Zirax and Kriel are an enemy when you start the game. And you can get honored with most factions within minutes if you find a pirate asteroid station.

    Still not the aim of this post ;)
    You see, when you discover at early game you're awarded with the explorer tokens.
    Instead of give you tasks to accomplish (story), you're given goals to achieve, like kill 1000 scorpions but nothing scripted, just go on your own business and eventually you will reach whatever goal is to uncover. On this type of game play you can earn something similar to the explorer token and trade for something.

    I personally find that it lacks main plot, I find it boring, there is no goal or anything to really venture for :c

    but don't get me wrong, it's a nice game and looks interesting, but it lacks the main plot

    I would simply like more new-game options. Always starting in the same system and having to do the same multi-hour grind has got extremely boring.

    I used to be able to alter the yaml files and start the game the way I liked. Now, I sbp in a CV and head out to explore the galaxy. Problem being, when I hit the ` button, I lose interest because I 'cheated'.

    I am just not interested in doing a story. I want to explore/survive from the get-go. I am also not interested in doing that repetitive grind each time I start a new game.

    I think OP's idea is the simplest task for a scenario mod that you could certainly download from the Workshop or create yourself. In such a mod you would take away the storylines and maybe adjust faction reputations to start. If I'm not mistaken there is even no need for a mod, you simply have to edit or take away some game files and you will have your 'generic' start without story.
    Question is: Why should the devs bother to do something if they already have given you the tools to make it yourself?

    I'm sort of new to the game, my own made ships are hideous. Just got some experience on the game itself, and definitively have no clue in how to develop a mod. So my suggestion goes for players like me, that just wanna play.

    And your argument is more than valid, I support your idea to add such a scenario in the 'Start new game' > Scenario' section. They already added an interesting short puzzle quest in 1.85, so why not a generic game start without story?

    how i see it is that i should be able to start at any type of planet or moon any size with no story there but with shelters to capture, ships to repair, maybe faction presence can be random or adjustable by choice too. because if you start to discover worlds you never actually have to survive there since you already have everything with you or you can warp/teleport to your base. and yes, this type of game will need random quests from npcs or achievements to get rewards like you do in story mode. maybe even roleplay like get a job, bring some resource every evening or get fired, maybe repair ships for money or work as a spaceport janitor, things like that.

    For advanced players: Note that some scenarios are hidden - but obviously there's a GOOD reason for that.
    This includes the old tutorial or an old Omicron game start without story I think. Wether this will play without further adaptation to the 1.8+ game I don't know, but most likely: no, you have to do adaptations.

    At your own risk you can unhide these scenarios by renaming the file .hidden.txt into BACKUP_.hidden.txt, they will then appear in the Scenario section of the game start menu when starting a new game.
    If this doesn't work for you, delete the savegames you have created with it and rename back the file.

    For me this is also immensly helpful to get me started in creating a simple scenario.

    Other more expert players have already recommended me to NOT modifiy the original game files in order to achieve my goals (like a different game start, or adding a POI in a playfield etc.) but instead to create a SCENARIO which will be untouched by game updates which can (and most likely will) break my modifications by overwriting the files and force me to make the mod dance again.
