Hello Galactic Survivalists! As most of you have probably already heard, we have moved the AntiCheat module to a newer version. Both versions are from Epic Games, however Epic Games will only continue to maintain the new version. Therefore, for Empyrion Galactic Survival there is the following change: All Empyrion versions before v1.8.10 (with the old module) can only be used WITHOUT EAC from December onwards. If you want to continue using an older game or server version, you should disable EAC until the end of November as follows: - Players: in the menu "Options / Misc" set the item "Start with EAC" to "No". - Server operators: a) set the parameter "EACActive: false" in dedicated.yaml b) if desired, access to the server can be restricted by a password, which will be given only to trusted players Thanks for your help! As a linux user I've not been able to play for a while due to EAC being forced on start up it in a recent update, however this new version works so can finally play on manjaro os again as well as on my steam deck with eac enabled for the first time so awesome stuff!
I do not remember EAC being on by default. I check it often after a new update version. Only thing is that the new version spams messages in console even in OFF setting. Linux user here too. Linux is not supported yet, by the way.
I was able to turn off EAC via the configs but there was still an EAC startup splash screen which would show a loading bar and then do nothing, so it was preventing the game to launch all together with EAC enabled or not, I think this was around the update from a few months back, before then I was able to play with EAC off in linux just fine. Now I see the loading splash screen but it actually works and the game loads up now. While linux isn't officially supported, it works via steam proton and so if an update breaks it I'll report it anyway but wont expect or demand support.
Not on topic, but I had to stop by and give thanks to the CTRL-copy block function that got added recently. Thought it was an ok addition, but after spending some time in Creative with it, this thing is a massive time saver with so many aspects in Creative. Nice idea and execution
Sorry.... Multiplayer and the Elon official USA site. I disabled the EAC but now the server kicks me off.. thank you for your help.
You cant disable eac on our servers. Turn it back on then it works This message is only for people who play an old version of the game. On our servers you can only play the current version
After the new EAC the game crashes more than any other game I ever played. I always play with EAC off, but it seems to ignore the fact. I have to try to load a save game multiple times to be able to continue my play. Especially if Empyrion is set to offline mode. This is getting ridiculous cause in order to play I have to waste time to try to make it work. I am tired even to make a proper bug report. Crashes 7zip Logfiles 7zip
Why oh why have you not enabled proton support for EAC yet?? Seriously, it's the only thing in the way of people playing on the major servers under Linux, at this point you're giving Linux users in general the middle finger. Probably not the best bet with the Steam deck being a player now.
Support for Linux will require extra knowledge and manpower, something that is currently not in the near future plans. It is not totally rejected though.
With respect, that is a completely unacceptable line at this point in time. Enabling support doesn't even require recompiling or changing anything with Empyrion itself. Not to mention that nobody is asking for OFFICIAL Linux support, even though we WERE promised it many YEARS ago, just an end to senselessly blocking it for no reason at this point. This is literally the only game in my library waiting, and only for EAC which is a third party product that already has proton support. Empyrion itself runs fine under proton, has for years now. It's literally just enabling the support, and that process has been made dead simple at this point. That's exactly what you are asking for though..... The moment they activate that line for proton eac, that is in effect them saying "we are now supporting proton/linux/etc". Doesn't matter if that is true or not, the moment they activate that line that is like sending a bat signal to the community that they are now supporting proton/Linux. They could add in 1000 disclaimers that they aren't supporting it and it still wouldn't matter, they would get flooded by support requests as soon as they activate that line. So no, until they are ready to fully 100% offer support for it they have zero intention of activating that line. They have said as much probably dozens/ hundreds of times now and yet people like you still demand they activate it now.
If there were a hybrid graphics setup in a particular laptop, and Unity had a flag as to whether to block support for that graphics chipset, would you still be saying "well, they'd have to support that manufacturer's hardware if they enabled it!" or would you be calling out the block for being as ridiculous as it is.. because we're really close to the second option at this point. If you were remotely correct, the fact it runs under proton at all would be taken as tacit support and they'd be in for a penny already. Nobody thinks that, because that would be ridiculous. People already play under proton and understand it's not directly supported by the devs. We just want to not be actively blocked from the majority of multiplayer for no good reason.
This announcement gave me a hope. I launched Empyrion with a happy thought "I've got one more reason to stay on linux for gaming.", but.... there is no full EAC support for multiplayer on linux. I and definitely not only I really need a chance to play on linux together with other galactic survivalists. Is there any way to show devs how it's important for us?
I'll post this again, and hopefully not get deleted this time. EAC is absolutely supported on proton/linux. Eleon has chosen not to enable it. To drive the point home, here is a list of games that do and don't support various anti-cheat programs under proton. You'll notice several that have chosen to enable EAC support: https://areweanticheatyet.com/
Oh, I found that deadly short Taelyn's message about this. But I can't understand why devs can't make that favor for linux gamers? It shouldn't be too difficult for them, right? Maybe they don't know how many of us are dreaming about that? I really don't want to uninstall Empyrion like some others who has despaired already. I really like this game, and I am still hoping to find a way to change devs' minds somehow.
EAC activation in Proton is like sailing to uncharted waters. I closely monitor Proton updates and I often see "Fixed EAC in X game..." etc. I support the gamers' need for Eleon's support of EAC through Proton but mostly I support Eleon's choice to keep it as is for now. If it is so important for someone to play Empyrion on a server with EAC, dual boot is your best option and it is there. Another might be a Windows Virtual machine in Linux but I haven't done any tests regarding, so I leave this as a theoretic solution. Linux needs some work from the user, but once done everything goes fine.
