How's the structural integrity of the ground, particularly the one of mountains/hills?

I have built my base on top of a hill and am considering hollowing out the hill to make a hangar at ground level. I think it would be best to make it another base and to connect both through an elevator shaft between them. It has turned out to be somewhat annoying to get to my base because the slopes are steep ...

Is the hill gona collapse on me and destroy the base on top of it when I hollow the hill out some?

No, the terrain is always solid and never moves, you just carve it out, you can carve out the bottom of the mountain and the rest of it will float in the air.
