I am not to sure about that. Mankind is always looking forward to become more efficient. So what is going to tell you that to produce ammo for ballistic weapons is going to be the most efficient way for being a firearm. Tools and production methods will get more efficient too, and there will be materials and components that are easier produced and more efficient in cost and handling. Plasma is just the beginning, railguns are not the end of the line. For most inventions one thing is very true: first the fiction, science makes them happen later. Think about Jules Verne. Many things he wrote in his novels have been impossible for his time. Engineers and scientists have made them become reality.... well, except the 20k miles down in the ocean. they are just not this deep. But imagination has always been better for inventions than pure science. the greatest inventions have been made by people who just did what other people KNEW was impossible for that day an age.

So if you have fictional weapon that shoots pressurized ultra heated space dust at 10.000 miles per second, penetrating 20 feet of solid steel it might seem that it is impossible now. But you never know what will be in 100, 500, 1000 or 10000 years from now. And honestly: i really doubt we'll find a Ak47 50000 years from now anywhere except in a museum for ancient tech. Who wants an old lead slinger that has neither the power, ammo capacity, speed and availability like a modern spacedust side arm that needs only have a ounce of dust to deliver twice as much devastation than a AK47 could ever deliver with a whole box of magazines.

I know this is against the murican believes, but to tell the truth: in order to reach the next step of evolution, mankind would need to stop using firearms against each other. So in a evolved world with an evolved mankind there will be no weapons anymore, since they are not needed. So many things prevent us from evolving more, so many things that are "normal" for today.

You seem to have an awfully inflated view of what is possible with tech, it is unlikely that scientific discovery will continue at the pace it has been running at for the past 200 years indefinitely. As for spacedust, I can assemble an AK47 out of ordinary steel and lead, how well supplied do you think spacedust army will be vs steel and lead army? As for firearms, it is the European conceit that a lack of weapons makes them more evolved, from where I'm standing, the only thing you are evolving toward by being disarmed is a certain middle eastern desert religion (That isn't Christianity). There will always be war as long as there are men, and weapons of war as a consequence.

See what i mean? You let that what you know today stop your imagination run wild. And no, i don't have an inflated view. We are now at a point where the whole knowledge of mankind is doubling every 7 years.... that is knowledge from 10k years, from the discovery of the fire til today. you don't know what material will be available in what quantity in the future. Nothing which is state of the art today, will necessarily be viable tomorrow. There have been so many things in the past that have been "proven facts" that got reverted to the false status centuries later. Same counts for todays knowledge: nothing is set in stone, not even your beloved "laws of physics". There could very well be the day when we discover that the laws of physics are wrong and/or incomplete. It can and probably will happen, simply because we have only the knowledge of today, not of tomorrow.

And yes, you are right. There will always be war. But as long as there will be this primitive behavior of being violent towards each other, mankind isn't evolving.

By the way: middle eastern desert countries are closer to "gotta have some guns"-murican way than you would believe. But let just not be talking about politics. Discussing an armed university campus in Texas where it only a matter of time til the next "tragic incident" or a 3 year old shooting his mother from the backseat of the car, after she bragged about how well her son knows firearms, just makes me sad. I just let those things happen and think: Darwin was right, natural selection works.

But to come back to the subject of future warfare: what makes you think that a gun is the ultimate weapon? Psyonic warfare anyone? ;-) No, i don't think things will still be the same. I hope we find out..... unless some crazy northern korean or some crazy US billionaire who became president push the button caused by brainlag.

So where are your Railgun and plasma blaster barrel? Do you have an ETA?

You know, I'm half a mind to vote for the crazy billionaire lint-trap, but only because I have a personal score to settle with the Texas Republicans for a fine bit of back-stabbery they pulled about 7 years ago. As as for "gotta have some guns" you are fixating on the object and missing the principle, and that principle is that to be defenseless and unarmed is to be contemptible. An unarmed people are held in contempt by their neighbors, their governments, and their enemies. Which is why your government seems to be confident that it can dump your enemies (as the aforementioned desert people consider themselves) on you and your neighbors without repercussion. Because you are held in contempt by those who rule you. Now that being said, I have no intention of continuing this discussion on this matter after your next reply, no good can come of it.

As for the additional weapon models, I expect to have them in a few days, I don't know how I want to work the designs exactly yet.

    Don't worry, i won't discuss that any further. ;-) it's like talking to a brick wall :p

Great, i'll wait for them to pop up. I like the modular idea. Making parts of weapon-systems interchangeable. Like when turrets come in different sizes: small, medium, large. The size determents which weapon system can be held by the turret, determents the cost and power needs. Than you have the housing which could be light, medium, heavy which in their case would determent how many guns it could house, how much hitpoints the weapon system has, and of course, light turns fast, heavy turns slow. So you can either have fast firing artillery that is actually a glass cannon, or even a quad-gun-multibarrel minigun tower that rains lead en mass down on a static target and their defendants, while it's hard to take down. further things to balance out the construction could be rate of logging on target, lift and turning angle (heavily armored housing won't allow a 360° turn in every direction) so you don't get a jack-of-all-trades-best-uber-weapon-ever kind of turret.

Personally i would like to see more variation in fixed guns. Not many more than we have now, only what makes sense. For SV and HV missle launcher and guided missle launcher come to my mind, and for CV, a fas firing, low damage, early available gun. Maybe a missle/guided missle launcher as well. Oh and the rocket launcher should look more like a rocket-pod in my opinion. That makes the existing model free to use as a artillery kind of of weapon.

Only thing i would have on my wishlist would be fixed, slightly gimbaled weapons weapons of the types, so that they center where the crosshair is pointing at.

But all those things can (and might come) at a later date.

I will be making a second gun housing for the 5x5 cv gun size, it will hold only one gun instead of two, but you will be able to fit a larger, longer gun to it. I want to approach the modular gun thing carefully, my requirement is that I have to be able to plausibly explain how it works inside the turret before I go designing the model, because I use the explanation as a guide on how the object should look.

Yeah I hate the feet they have on all the turrets atm makes them look ugly and bulky imo, I mean just for reference take a look at an old battleship from ww2 or something you have the large turrets similar to your picture and then you have the smaller mini gun turrets like the vulcans which is much smaller by comparison.

As of the current time. IMHO the Minigun's the current best weapon for peeps. In the future, this could change. ;)

There is no "Bullet Forever" crew in the sense you are thinking of, I just think that people don't stop using older weapons because newer ones are available (this does not apply to incremental improvements to current weapon designs). Besides, contrasting the old with the new tech is an excellent way to illustrate the awsomeness of the new tech, and an excellent illustration on why people still use the old.

I like old stuff sure. But I personally am not ready to trade in my Mig Welder and Torch set for a Anvil and Forge. But I do understand how period correct weapons would hurt playing toy soldier PVP. But as the man said back to our regular topic. What ever that is lol.

Yesterday I got bored and started up minecraft for the first time in ages. And then spent 8 hours levelling a small mountain/hill to make a desert fortress. I'm really looking forward to the Empyrion Alpha, but I can't build in that scale (in Survival) until the game is finalised :(

    Edit for those interested:

There are 27 underground floors with a central ladder/waterdrop shaft culminating in a giant cavern that extends all the way down to bedrock.

Yes you can theres no reason at all why you cant build a city like alot of us have, BP's are your friend.

In minecraft to take a blue print you need Mc Edit or the like, we have it built into the game in Empyrion, scissors beats paper !

Logged in to the RvB server briefly before work to check it out. Pyrite looks nice, chainsaws are awesome (killed my first dino via chainsaw... feels good, man), and I started building a little wooden hut. However, reality calls and I must leave for work... :(

Lucky bugger. Dad's comin & I can't check out anything anytime soon... or if i'm amazingly lucky maybe i'll get to Empyrion SP Creative Mode... or if Hell freezes over I might get to Overwatch Beta Test Weekend, got an Invite for this go. (Lasts only today & part of tomorrow.)

I'm damn glad this won't screw over my GMT buds... I still feel a bit guilty though... :(

On the bright side, I now have my New Build mostly running & it's now serving its Post in place of my Old Build. Microsoft is still being a bastard though, having this damn 'W10 Upgrade' Popup in my Task Bar that keeps enticing me to Click It, then click a Button to have it start Downloading then having the goddamn 'Starting Download' Window sit there & NEVER MOVE OFF 'STARTING DOWNLOAD' no matter how long it sits there...
