If you detach a block from other blocks by removing what's connecting them, the detached block becomes debris, can't be salvaged, and its contents are instantly lost.

For example, it happens when I destroy the block below this container. It turns into debris, destroying itself and its content without any means of recovery (at least most of the time; sometimes the block just stays up there and doesn't drop, but that's a harmless bug):

What I'd expect to happen is for the container to drop to the ground but stay there for X number of minutes, or for it to spawn its contents in a pickuppable form. That does not happen. It turns into debris, "forgetting" its contents.

Now, if debris were to let you salvage the contents completely when detached, the player should have the ability to connect it to a storage network for easy recovery.

What I'd also expect is that when salvaging a wreck and cutting a block out cleanly (especially a valuable block), I'd be able to pick it up intact as a reward. That also doesn't happen, which punishes exploration and salvaging, and seems unintuitive.
