To start out... I have played the game for more than 1300 hours. I have just got myself a new Super Ultra Wide monitor (5120x1440) to fit the rest of my new build. As I have an AMD gfx card, I wanted/needed to use FSR. WHY does it look HORRIBLE? It's very blurry and flickering? It's almost as if Empyrion only lowers the resolution, and ignores the upscaling part. I can see (searching on Google) that just about EVERYONE have that issue, ALSO with DLSS... Reddit Reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/empyrionga...and_fsr_just_lower_the_resolution_instead_of/ Another question: Am I the only one having issues with the mouse invisibly moving around on the screen ingame and accidently clicks on action bar items and so on? It actually killed me ingame more than once, when the mouse grabbed an item in my action bar and dragged that around on the screen. Sometimes I can't use a tool, as the mouse apparently is hovering over a tip. I SUSPECT it has something to do with playing in that high resolution, as I never had the issue on my old 1920x1080 monitor.
FSR should only be used at 4k resolution. I am not sure why it's like that in Empyrion. For the mouse, do you have a controller plugged in?
That's just strange, yes. It works in all the other games I have, although they use FSR2/FSR3. No controller shall ever touch my pc
As a follow/up to this... It seems like the upscaling doesn't work at ALL, no matter if you use FSR or DLSS... EVEN if you run the game in 4K... They really need to fix this... See https://www.reddit.com/r/empyrionga...and_fsr_just_lower_the_resolution_instead_of/ again... I also noticed that the game ignores the VSync setting.... It's active, and I set my monitor to 120Hz, but the game is all over the place, from below 120fps to over 500...
FSR/DLSS SHOULD work properly already at 1080p, but not in Empyrion. I would love to get a PROPER implementation, especially with FSR3/DLSS3. But I guess this doesn't get fixed either... sadly...
Can add to this, tried running it on my 4K monitor and it looks like garbage with FSR, (sliiiiiighlty better in quality mode) Anyone know what version of FSR it's using?
From what I have learned, they never properly implemented FSR, and it is supposedly FSR1, which just makes it worse, considering how old that technology is.
I had a hunch that was the case For quick comparison I tested the game in 1080 (and it looked even worse, the scaling on this monitor is trash) and tried upscaling with the program Lossless scaling (also using FSR) and holy moly that was sharp and crisp. Unfortunatly unplayable fps, but atleast that did scaling -.- (Sidenote/offtopic When did the game become this hard to run? I used to play this (some years ago? before 1.0, in 1080p) pretty maxed settings with games like 7 Days & Valheim and the performance was about on par with those other Unity titles, but now after upgrading monitors and GPU to run 4K it's impossible even with fairly low settings to even get 60fps. (While 7days and Valheim is for the most part 60fps+ with moderate settings))
In other words, that won't change, I guess I am not near my computer right now, and haven't played it for about half a year. I have a Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo 49 inch monitor running 5120x1440 resolution. My graphics card is an Asrock RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming OC. I can't remember what settings I used, but I was mostly running it at 120-240fps. I did encounter some huge bases though, where the fps dropped to around 40 fps. This was in coop with the mod Reforged Eden 2. I can take a look later. I have actually thought about getting that Lossless Scaling. Maybe I should try it.
Thats interesting. while my GPU (7800XT) is a weaker one, it should run 4K 60fps reasonable I'd think Hmmmmm. The Lossless Scaling was on Steam sale recently so I picked it up just for the hell of it, Useful in a few edgecase scenarios for me.
With the last few updates I've noticed a little lag and freezing (1 second) when entering Polaris territory (not just initially but every time I enter) in general I run around 100fps with a 4070 card on a big (3840x2160) screen. I'm not techically minded I'm afraid but there was time where the flashier stuff just made the picture crap, but I've turned off a lot of that and it's better... still high quality though. I found the Terrain tesselation made some of the textures look crap so that's now off, but also DLSS is off too.
That's really interesting, our cards should be fairly equal in raster performance. But I'm lucky if it even reaches 40fps. Gonna have to dig in and troubleshoot a bit it looks like.
I decided to try and run the game with different settings. Everything on HIGHEST settings, EXCEPT: Depth of Field OFF and FSR OFF. Started a NEW Creative single player game on Temperate planet, default settings. I just get into the game and do NOT move my character at ALL. First test: 3840x1080 with Lossless Scaling active. FPS is 60 natively, and 240 through Lossless Scaling FSR. I must be doing something wrong, as it looks REALLY bad and jagged, edges are flickering badly, and the "Welcome to Creative Mode!" sign is unreadable. BAD delays and choppy movement. Test 2: Native resolution of 5120x1440, using Fullscreen Windowed mode. FPS is 35-40 natively. LS with LSFG 3.0 Adaptive ON, FSR OFF is 240 fps. Picture is crisp, and looks fantastic. BUT, BAD delays and choppy movement. Test 3: Native resolution of 5120x1440, using Fullscreen Windowed mode. This time with Dynamic Shadows OFF, and Sky Reflections Quality OFF FPS is 60-65. Picture is crisp, and looks fantastic, AND it's playable-ish.
I did a few tests aswell, not in a new world but in my tiny starter base In native 3840*2160 (With texture and character resolution upped to MAX) Exclusive Fullscreen Only preset playable is FAST with 60fps (gpuload at 83-93%) trying anything fancier drops the fps below 60 and puts a 100% load on the gpu. Something seems really off Lossless scaling is kinda fiddly and I'm by no more then a newbie on that too, mainly used it for testing
