Happy Birthday, Galactic Survivalists! Ten years ago, on this very day, a small team embarked on the Early Access adventure on Steam with a game that brought the then rather static Minecraft universe into space and beyond with a sci-fi focus. Time flies, and in a decade, Empyrion Galactic Survival has not only expanded incredibly in scope, but has also been rewarded with an ever-loyal community that is always ready to provide comprehensive, detailed, and often critical feedback. We are very grateful for this, as it allows us to continue refining and expanding the game over a long period of time. And of course, we are far from finished! We are constantly evaluating the possibility of larger features, even though the focus this year and in the next updates will be more on content, e.g., as currently in update 1.13 with new story missions and a total overhaul of the galaxy. Both were only first steps, but long overdue ones, and so this will remain a primary focus for the immediate next versions in order to optimally develop what we have started. To keep this birthday tribute from getting too long, and because we want to hear from you, our community, let us know what your first memories of Empyrion are. Which version did you start with? What were the milestones of the game for you, and which feature were you most excited about when it was introduced? Which were the best moments you remember? Do you still have pictures and screenshots from back then? Post them directly in the comments below or send them to us at [email protected] with a description of the reason for the screenshot if you want to see them published on our channels. On behalf of the team, all current and former team members, and especially on behalf of the founders, we would like to thank you for an exciting decade in which you have been with us through thick and thin. We thank you for all your support, for your patience, and also and especially for some heated discussions on the way to a better gaming experience. We hope you enjoy Empyrion Galactic Survival and will continue to do so in the future! With best wishes, Empyrion Dev Team Eleon Game Studios
Congratulations! My path in Empyrion was started in 2016, with Alpha release. I still remember my first night with creepy flesh flowers with scary screams. I didn't have any weapons, and only way to survive was running. Somewhere in the darkness. With new hell flowers! Sometimes I think that Empyrion is horror game. Spoiler: Here is some my screens from 2016: Thank you for tons of emotions and fun.
Another player that has been around since 2016 Thank you for all the years of enjoyment. This stunt will always have a special place in my heart. When I crashed my escape pod into an enemy POI back in the days when we could (somewhat) control it's decent.
Alpha 6 for me. The building options and the, almost, limitless options for creative building keep me coming back. I think the galaxy generation was the biggest feature I liked. The size of it, plus random generation was a literal game changer.
I just wanted to give blanket permission for the devs to use any image I have uploaded. Now this is not my picture, but I just still miss the old warp drive.
Another old one from way back when, the first CV line I made from scratch and some variants as I was learning the system and playing around with what I could create. The old HPOD's. I still keep them around and have updated them as time progressed. (Highly Portable Operations Depot, or Hockey Puck Of Doom. Take your pick).
Ok, I just had to share this old picture. I no longer have the blueprint but I hope it brightens your day.
Around 2016 after tried another similar space crafting sim (space Engineers), which I found it hard to grasp with annoying mechanics at that time, I read an article on RPS about Empyrion and thought to buy it at 23/11. The game was in pre Alpha version but I do not remember the exact number. Back then, the player started in survival mode on Omicron (desert) in front of a crashed SV without oxygen and had some time before the O2 on the armor is depleted. Hard to create the missing components for the SV and fly it to explore the rest of the planet. You had to craft every single component before you make a device, since the constructor's mechanic did not create advanced devices from resources. Around a 1 km from me there was a big black crashed SV with a couple of Zirax drones patrolling it. With eough O2 and bullets, you could visit the site for salvagins fuel O2 and components, mostly plates and some glass. Time passed and I was eager to read the release notes on every new version, only to jump after into the game to test stuff out and continue my journey. At some point found various youtubers dedicated playing the game, from where I learned stuff. The best was to learn how to copy vessels from old games to new ones, since new versions of the game required new save files to be created. Nine years after I am still an active player, some times creating my own vessels, playing scenarios and testing vessels found on steam workshop. I even jump on posting several bug reports, which is something I did for a game I think for first time in my gaming life. Heck I think I am the one that proposed POI respawn back before this was a feature, to spice up survival on planets. When it was introduced I was thrilled. An idea of mine was implemented in game. I was surprised though that I could not install my own core in those POIs that were set to be regenerated. Such was the game mechanic, but you could turn it off editing scenario files. How long Empyrion will last, if there will be a version 2, or further enrichment of version 1 is yet to be seen, but I will be here to see it. If you ask me, I think it is time for a modernization or the look and feel of the world. Is there anything new I would like to see in game? Well that would be the mechanics from two other games (Space Engineers 2 and Starship Evo) that allow the player to build using block sizes in mixed grid and even define the size of the block prior to its creation while building vessels. It would enrich aesthetically, building Bases and Vehicles by far. Some say this game is like LEGO in space (my brother is one of them) a game I was fond of playing when I was a little kid. I was very excited to play a computer game like it at later age. But Empyrion is many things more than LEGO. You get to fly your vessels and live in your bases. You have to created everything before use it. You have missions and mostly a whole games galaxy to explore. Happy birthday Empyrion. Last 9 years of gaming for me were wonderful because of you.
- best part of your post! ... sorry I don't have old screen shots, but I do have so many happy memories over the years playing this game, both solo and with friends old and new. Thousands of hours in game and probably a similar number out side of game, in discords, the forum, BP workshop and just contemplating the impacts and opportunities of a new patch, or new season in a MP server etc. Congratulations on the milestone anniversary!
