I cannot play EGS anymore with EAC enabled. I use shadow gaming pc. When i launch the game a pop up window sais: "Launch error cannot run under virtual machine" If i delete EAC launcher then it lets me start the game, but then i can't join any server which uses EAC. It worked without any problems before. Please fix this.
Can we get more clarity on this? I'm getting the same "Cannot run under virtual machine" error when launching 1.18. To be clear, I'm not Cloud gaming. I have a server running a gaming VM (amongst other services) in my own home that I use to stream all my games to various devices (Sunshine/Moonlight combo) - also in my own home - no cloud involved, and no external streaming without a VPN. I have 149 Steam games, and have run with this set up for about 5 years - would easily have thousands of hours streaming over this. Never once have I had a game say it couldn't launch, and Empyrion worked fine up until 1.18. Mainly wondering if this was an intentional change? Also wondering if it's Empyrion or EAC causing it? Other EAC games still seam to launch fine.
It comes from EAC, we updated to the latest version They increased there security in this version It might be worth to raise a bug ticket with them From our side we cant make changes to this, neither we will downgrade EAC What I do know is that another cloud provider Geforce Now (also not supported) works fine, so its something on the servers it self that is preventing it VMs and Cloud Gaming are mostly the same
Thanks for the info Taelyn - knowing you updated EAC helps. Let me explore the EAC route. Just wanted to confirm it wasn't intentional and wasn't something on the Empyrion side. Will post any updates here for the community if I solve this on my set up.
I tried to uninstall EAC (as per link at bottom), but looks like Empyrion is hard locked to needing it as I now get an "EAC not installed" error. This is incredibly infuriating. I own a copy of Empyrion, have 320+ hours in it, and now can't even play it any more. "Play on bare metal" is not a valid reply. I'm not trying to cheat, I just prefer being more economical/ecological by having a single server for everything (thus VM with GPU passthrough). Yet more enshitification of the modern world, sigh. Guess like most things I don't actually "own" Empyrion to use it as though its mine https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2767163320
What works in another game is no guarantee it will work in this game. Games can use different version of eac. We use the latest one since a few days You don't need eac but you have to disable it for this in the options of the game. But without eac you can't play on the majority of servers. Including all the Official Servers If you can't get into the game for it then you can do it in the registry. For single player eac isn't needed. However you are better off writting a ticket to eac / epic games and get it looked what the issue is. It's an issue on a select amount of server likelly a setting or a missing requirement We however can't do anything. We will not downgrade the version of EAC for it Specially since we do not support this kind of gaming
Thanks again Taelyn - I get your position. I have raised with EAC/Epic. It's intentional, they don't support VMs, and the only way around this is very complex (and often brittle) changes to qemu to try to spoof/convince EAC it's running on a physical machine. Perhaps someone with more time than myself will find a simple way around this - if so, I'd love to hear about it! That said, from my interactions with EAC, they're going hard-line on limiting the use of VMs. In their mind, there is no legitimate use of VMs for gaming, even though there appears to be a strong community of folks that do it (the existence of and continued active development of open-source solutions like Sunshine & Moonlight attest to that). At the moment, it looks like I can no longer play Empyrion, which is a shame. I don't have hardware to play it outside my server, which runs myriad other services for my business so can't just be moved to a dedicated physical Windows gaming machine. Fortunately Empyrion is the only game I own that uses EAC, and all 62 other Steam games I currently have installed launch just fine on my set up. For anyone who stumbles on this thread, here's a list of games that use EAC. Most/if not all will eventually stop working with VMs as they upgrade to later versions of EAC from the sound of it. If you do headless gaming from a VM, I suggest you avoid them. https://steamdb.info/tech/AntiCheat/EasyAntiCheat/
