    Hey all, wondering if this is a bug, something new in the updates, or I am just missing something. Created a base in space and walled in a large area for a garden. I put grow lights two blocks up on the ceiling point down upon the soil plot blocks. When i try to plant either pumpkins, durins, or tomatos its giving me a "This plant cannot grow here"

    Screenshot here;

    I did it in previous versions but couldn't find anything in the patch notes about crops in space. Any ideas?

    Please make a better screenshot, where we can see the whole room.

    Please send me a blueprint of this base to [email protected]

    Thx!

    The red bar indicates you may have the plant oriented that is not up/down (blue line), try adjusting the orientation of the plant.

    Grav generator should be the only indicator for pant growth direction lol

    agree on the grav generator :) It could completely be possible that the base core got into a different alignment then how I built the base. Floating around in space can really throw off your sense of direction.

    Here is a screenshot of the room to capture more of its layout as well as the blue bar orientation of the plant

    And here is one of the Core though i dont know how to tell what orientation it is in

    both of these are taken with the single grav generator turned on. Ill send the blueprint as well to the suggested email addy. I know i can probably just knock down the base and remake it but i figure collection of data will be helpful for anyone else who comes across this :)

    Well, your assuming I am thinking literally, game mechanics aside, I am referring to the orientation<----keyword of the "placement", the devs may have made it so it can only be placed in the up/down position and NOT act like blocks you can turn in different ways.

    Real sorry! Was just getting up here, made a small typo and decided to leave it like that.
    I was thinking like "Most Plants tend to grow towards light and in opposite direction of gravity", what would happen to them on a space station? Artificial gravity etc.
    So not a serious mail.

    I hope the issue will get fixed / all the bugs squished, if there are any.
    Never tried to rotate any seedlings or the growing plots myself ... but you may be right on spot there. Block rotation in space is tricky.

    It ended up being the orientation of the core, unfortunately just destroying the core and replacing it with the correct orientation didn't correct it for the crop blocks already placed. I ended up having to destroy the current base and starting a new one from scratch..good lesson learned to pay closer attention to how the starter base is place :)

    You didn't notice which way your CV cockpit was facing?

    I do have the same problem with my space station. The Orientation on the growing plots is ignored . The plant seem to use the "base" orientation.

    Unfortunately i'd build the farm at least. it is not that easy to rebuild the whole thing.

    @Hummel-o-War
    Any chance that plants will use the orientation of the growing plot with one of the upcoming patches ? At least in space at 0.0 g.

    This is a very common problem. Core needs a this side up with arrow pointing to the front message. They used to have arrows. Many users are building upside down. Plus if you change the core location your center indicater doesnt show the new center location.

    CVs have makers on their starter blocks.

    Center is not calculated via the Core Block, but by mass and shape

    Well then it's broken. I built a CV in the shape of a pyramid. Starter block was on the far left. Moved the core to center but the CV marker stayed to the left. So then third person view was from the side of the CV. Not from the center.

    Why do ppl do not use collor / texsture
    Tool's during building to mark up down left and right front back it's not difficult is it ?

    I never have problems with the right direction. But building a station in space, there is no "right direction", it's all relative . It shouldn't matter in what direction you place the growing plot with the plants

    Edit: And this is what the thread is about. It's about station in space and planting. Not about CV with wrong directions or center of mass

    Rather than making the crops gravity-related they should make then plot-related it would save lots of trouble since the plot-plant-light would always be lined up no matter the gravity or the core base orientation.

    I've noticed in space, there are two sets of orientations - one that is specific to your ship, the other that is specific to you.

    Case in point, on the Official Vanilla server, I build a small space base to be used to construct a large CV that was simply too inconvenient to build on the planet. Once I decided where I was going to put my orbital base, I used the Auto-Rotate in my ship to orient myself correctly. This seems to be a good method, as it ensured I'd be able to land on the landing platform with my ship oriented correctly. When I stepped outside to start base construction, I used Auto-Rotate again, and found myself turned 90 degrees from where my ship was aligned. I tried reorienting my ship, but it was already at its auto-position. I was not, so I built based on the ship orientation, which proved to be 90 degrees off, when I went to place a Repair bay and found it had to be placed "sideways" as everything was considered to be off by 90 degrees.
