Doh... I plead first cup of coffee brain fail. >_< I too wonder if how to fix the Lighting is stymieing the Devs...
'For centuries Nebulae Stations served as sanctuaries against the Eon, hosting refuge ships. During the great war between Za'hal and the Eon most of the stations were destroyed. One station survived – shrouded in the coldness of deep space Nebulae Station 5 still prevails and welcomes any peaceful race seeking asylum.' Indeed. I mean it would be a cool thing to have. Some of my CV and BA orbital hulls are large enough that I need to spawn multitudes of spotlight SVs and they only illuminate a small portion of the hull each. Plus, when you're working inside large spaces you have to add huge scaffold structures to get lights where you need them. Not ideal in Survival when you have to remove them all with the removal tool.
Heh, apparently the reason I never finish any of my hulls in a timely manner is I can't stay on one design for very long. I was thinking some more about my long range recon CV and completely redesigned it in my head as a simple black cube with indentations on each side containing clusters of engines. so the hull I linked earlier might take another 6-12 months to finish...
Not just that, but also how hard on the CPU the Lighting is. Also, got a large amount of my new CV done, & i'm liking how this Body is turning out a lot more then the last one so this one might become a complete CV Build.
Thought about the cube shape. Built the cube shape The pink lines are building guides. The hardest thing about this is going to be retexturing and painting the hull >.> Edit: playing with engine configurations and corridor layouts Spoiler Spoiler
I finished my second CV today! Went with the same style of the Sentinel only it's micro size and very cheap! The Orion is more of a personal capital whereas the Sentinel is a full fledged carrier. I still need to go back and update the Sentinel yet to make use of the hanger doors. More pictures here!
Well, I did go with lime green as the colour of my engineering rooms on the power/control deck. I'm pretty happy with the result. Core room Spoiler One of the 4 power/fuel rooms: Spoiler
Figured out the range for hangar doors to activate, need a 4 block gap between sv and hangar to keep it closed. Needed this info for an upcoming industrial build im doing.
I can say no, base range of lights is set intentionally. I thought this too but I looked into unity lighting a little and then I tested range of spotlights vs base lights. Spotlights btw go 90ishm, base 30. Take this with a grain of salt dev's might have it limited for a reason we dont know of. We most definetly do not have all info. But this is what feedback is for.
Nonsense. The Borg consider "Pleasure" an Irrelevant Emotion. There's times when I wonder if the Lighting is currently set to be under the Processing Jurisdiction of the CPU, & if so, if the Devs could experiment & see what happens if they change the Lighting's Processing Jurisdiction to the Graphics Card, which could pack more muscle to do the job with... though I have no clue if doing this is even at all possible. (Yo, Game, quit trying to lift the Lighting Calculations with your Back, use your Legs dude! )
Finished my doctorate on tuesday, so I started building my CV in earnest yesterday Holy Mother of God, this is a freaking huge task. I have a basic vision of how the whole thing should look but had no real idea of the scaling, so I started with the bridge and built the hull down from there, walling off rooms as enclosed space became clear. Turns out the hangar needs much more space than I thought, so I had to plan the generator/warp core rooms differently. In toto the entire thing turns out to be much, much larger than I initially thought... Currently it already looks epic as the giant, dead, half-completed steel carcass it is, floating in space above Akua. The Kuat Drive Yards are a joke compared to that! PS: A question that occurred to me: Can you remove and then re-place the core? I may have to move the bridge (which is built around the core) or even move the core itself to deeper inside the ship for proper 3rd person view when piloting.
I do this all the time mate If you do huge builds then the best way to sketch the outlines of the ship so that the initial position of the core is in the middle - that way you can expand the ship further in any direction without worrying of running past block limit (provided it's less than 250 blocks to one side) and the center of the mass of your build remains at the center.
There's the big steel carcass. Since taking these shots I've deconstructed the bridge again (didn't like its exposed position).
