So, I came to the conclusion I need a proper narrative for my SP game, lest it be boring. Hence I decided that my character is hell bent on actually completing the mission to explore and ultimately colonise the Andromeda galaxy for Earth. He has declared the entire galaxy a colony of the Terranean Empire and himself the governor. The goal now is to establish fortresses on every planet and wipe out any alien presences. (That wasn't obvious, was it?) Anyway, with the thought in mind that you're pulling a galactic Cortes or Pizarro on these aliens, it does regain a sort of incentive. On another note, I invaded (yeah, empires don't just land on, they invade!) Omicron, spawned a mighty fortress from my pocket factory and gave the speeder bike another try. From my previous experiences, where the thing became bigger than planned due to squeezing all sorts of facilities in I resricted myself to only the most basic stuff (generator, tank, engines, rcs, one O2 tank, one cargo box) and I think the result is basically what I envisioned. In line with my other vessels I called it "Wasp":
Took a bit of a break from ESP to play Eve, and now I'm back to make more ships inspired by Eve. I might have a problem... First project was to go back and reapply paint and textures to a couple ships... apparently one of the 2.x patches "fixed" some textures where I had incorporated these broken textures' appearance into the design of the ship. Let me tell you, scouring the interior and exterior of the carrier a couple times was not my idea of fun. STOP FIXING THINGS ELEON!! Just kidding... love you guys.
Played some Fallout Shelter and now (when I've finished my current creative project) I've decided to start building underground bases again.
By now i'm sure you're tired of this, but it's what I did unfortunately... This thing is finally getting into a state I can consider releasing it onto the workshop, I rebuilt the main cockpit / deck area as I discovered in use that it was really unattractive and had horrible visibility. I'm fairly happy with it now. The lower hangar is complete and textured and looks really sanitary, there are 6 bays for small to medium SV's (or HV's if you want to land this thing (yes it is reasonably well behaved in atmosphere) A space station was kind enough to donate resources which allowed for the addition of the other constructors, one really is not enough when you're building something like this. I also managed to fit the final forward facing guns - I had to go and mine Aestus and Masperon for that though as I am simply not finding any rare ores in poi's I also added a few more turrets in obvious "blind spot" areas. I really don't subscribe to the idea of covering every square inch with weapons, it has to look balanced, if it's a bit challenging and has a weak spot or two ... welcome to reality, that's life
Started a new seed (13072016), took over the Xenu armory on Omicron and learnt that this was actually a very viable way to start simply because there are so many little pistol drones in the core room, you can replenish ammunition while taking over the station. Having said that, this was only possible because there was a Rocket Drone outside that helped me remove the necessary blocks to get inside. Otherwise the 150 rounds would not have been sufficient.
In real life, using the ammunition of the enemy would not work, because of the different sizes for the rounds. You wouldn't dare to use the guns of the enemy neither, because you had no time to pick them up and learn how to handle another gun appart from yours. And you would not have the strenght to then carry 2 or 3 differenet guns at one time. I just try to say: If you want to keep a realistic challenge just bring all your ammunition yourself next time. That comes with propper planning and justification of what to carry with you. But I don't know if it would still be fun this way. ^^
Very valid comment. Normally, I scout for mineral resources and do stock up on all ammo and weapons before I head out to a POI. This is the first time I actually started the game with a base assault to try my luck and see whether it is a viable approach. Obviously, 150 pistol rounds don't get you very far and normally you wouldn't make a dent with it.
Uploaded Eon StarJumper to the workshop - check it out 'At the pinnacle of their civilization the Eon used StarJumpers to chart the star clusters in Andromeda Galaxy. Capable of storing large quantities of cargo and food and having a moderate level of fuel consumption, Mark I ships were ideal for space and planetary exploration. However, when the war with the Za'hal broke out the Eon desperately needed a ship capable of doing military reconnaissance, scouting and support missions. StarJumper Mark II emerged as a collective attempt by finest Eon phasesmiths to perform such tasks: hangar bay was recrafted for fitting small fighters, hull durability was increased (steel replaced by reinforced steel) and more turret weapons were installed.' Actually, in real life, the standard ammunition is 5.56mm for an infantry rifle. Most militaries around the world use the same sized bullet for the same troop types.
standard in the NATO, not elsewhere. The still very popular AK47 uses 7.62x39mm, while the old NATO-cardriges had 7.62x51mm. The new AK74 has 5.45x39 mm and is not compatible to the 5.56x45 mm of the NATO. So much only to the most popular types of ammunition. And - whatever you choose - according to Murphy, you can count on that your enemy uses the other one.
I have no advanced military knowledge about that, so it's nice to know. Lets say you are right (because I don't know it for real): Do you really search the bodies of the enemy in the middle of a base invading operation? I suppose even as a squad you wouldn't dare to waste time for that.
Started back building my carrier and I am amazed at the size from my characters point of view. I still can't wait until they remove the 250m limit and take it up to 1k but this game scales pretty well when it comes to size in my opinion. A 100m or 200m feels the way it should feel from my characters point of view. That tiny red and block dot hanging out in what will be my hangar bays is my character.
