There are so many Survival building games coming out now. I've lost count and competition is a good thing. Looking at games like Planet Nomad , Dual Universe and other games coming out. I see Empyrion being the better game in the end. I will admit the new kids on the block Dual Universe and Planet Nomads concepts look very very very impressive. The Dual Universe idea of bigger and better is very attractive while Planet Nomads is Space Engineers with No Man Sky graphics but after watching Planet Nomad for a few minutes i lost interests. Yes its a pretty game but all Planet no mads makes me want to do is Play the REAL Space Engineers not a cute version of it. I've been watching Dual Universe like the rest the world and yes it will be an amazing game but I get the feel of a NO man sky vibe with Dual Universe. Where they are going with Bigger the better instead of substance. They are selling the bigger, more flashy Space Engineers theme which is impressive but I have a feeling that once players spend sometime in the MMO world with this game they will be turned off. Now that brings me back to Empryion . Sure Empyrion has bugs and has things they need to fix but looking at Empyrion in it's current state and looking at the list of features that will make it in the game at some point. Then add in the extra Star systems that will some day be the game. I see a game that when it's finished will be the more complete game. People call Planet Nomads, Space Engineers in the No Man SKy Universe, and they call DU star citizen version of Space Engineers which if you look read up on DU's combat system its not even in the same league as Star Citizen but I see Empryion as the HALO version of Space Building Survival games. There are times when I play Empryion I feel like I'm playing HALO or DOOM. That in itself makes it better than the rest of the games. Imagine what this game is going to be like once the AI is improved and they add AI Capital ships the larger planets and more star systems? I honestly can't see these new Games being more entertaining than Empyrion once the devs add those features. I realize they are still not done yet but Planet Nomad and DU are nothing more than concepts right now. Empyrion is moving closer to becoming a real game.
AI control ships is space is going to change this game in a really good way. Right now everyone can leave there CV in space by itself with nobody watching it and nothing really happens . Adding AI control ships will cause people to have to build space bases or land their CV on the planet.
I wouldn't want to have to land my CV on a planet since the fuel usage can be insane. What I would like to see is the ability to create our own drones that can patrol around a given area (In this case a CV in space), and be another defensive mechanic in the game. I've played quite a few of the newer space titles out there, and so far Empyrion has scratched that itch for me. Space Engineers is good, but a bit too sandbox for me. No Mans Sky was too hyped. Big things I look for in games that will last on the PC: 1. Active Developer 2. Dedicated Servers 3. Modding/Steam Workshop 4. Active Friendly Community If the other games coming out manage to have these items I'll give them a look. Otherwise they are off the list.
